Fruit Mania

The symbols first used on classic slot machines were illustrations of various pieces of fruit, and for well over a century they have endured. One of the latest video slots to employ this juicy theme is “Fruit Mania” from software developer Playtech. It can be found installed as a progressive version on Bet365, Titan Casino, PaddyPower and other major gaming web sites within the Playtech family of clients.

Fruit Mania features a standard 5-reel, 5-payline format. There is a fixed credit denomination of €0.25 per line, making the total bet on all five lines just €1.25 in total. Because of the relatively low betting limit, the jackpot on Fruit Mania starts at just €1,250, but it grows quickly and pays out frequently—once every four days on average—thus making it an excellent value proposition for those looking to maximise payouts.

The control panel below the reels is as sleek as can be, with buttons for Paytable, Bet One, Bet Max and Spin, as well as indicators for Credit, Win, Bet and Line Bet. Like most progressives, Fruit Mania is available to play only in the Real Money mode. Selecting the Bet One button allows single line selection, while clicking on Bet Max places a wager on each of the 5 paylines.

The basic symbols on the reels all represent familiar fruit. Matching two or more Lemons, Strawberries, Green Apples or Grapes on an active payline awards a line multiplier from 2X to 500X. Catching two or more matching Peach or Blueberry symbols will yield a payout of 5X to 2500X. And the Cherries are the top paying symbol, worth from 10X to 5000X on payline 1~4 or the progressive jackpot on the fifth payline.

Two different Bonus features are available on Fruit Mania. The first is a Scatter Bonus that is triggered whenever three or more Cocktail Glass symbols appear anywhere on the five reels. The awards are multipliers of 5X, 40X or 500X times the entire wager whenever 3, 4 or 5 Cocktail Glass Scatters display, respectively.

The second Bonus feature in the Fruit Mania slot game is activated when three Sun symbols align on an active payline, starting with the leftmost reel. In this case, a secondary bonus screen appears showing a display full of juicy fruit from which to pick. One piece of fruit is selected from each line to calculate the bonus win. These winnings are then automatically added to the overall balance before the game returns to the standard reels.

Winnings from the bonus games are certainly welcome, and the requirement of just two matching symbols for a payout ensures that funds are being replenished regularly. However, it is the prospect of a huge win on the progressive that keeps players coming back for more. According to one report, the average jackpot paid on Fruit mania is in the vicinity of €10,000, with the biggest award as of late 2012 reaching nearly €60,000.

A number of Game Options are available by clicking on the Menu button at the bottom right of the screen. Useful functions include adjustable Sound and Speed. For those who like effortless play, the Autoplay feature provides just the answer, and the Stop button can be used at any time to return to manual spin mode. Because Fruit Mania is a progressive, there is no Free Play or Practice mode. The idea is to have players leap right in and try for a massive payout. And with the stake required to win big being just €1.25, it is certainly worth a shot at taking a low budget all the way to the top prize.
