Genie’s Hi-Lo

According to legends, a genie is a magical spirit. It could take human form, and it would have to serve the person who called it forth. Because these entities supposedly had the power to grant wishes, they would often be called upon to bestow great wealth upon the masters they served, and that’s exactly the process that software developer Playtech had in mind when they created the arcade game known as “Genie’s Hi-Lo.”

From the outset, players can see how different Genie’s Hi-Lo is from other games. There is a fetching female Genie in a skimpy red outfit on the right side of the display screen. She holds in her hand a dozen playing cards, the faces of which unseen and are positioned away from the player. One by one, the player will have to opportunity to choose from among the cards, making attempts to predict their colours or values in order to receive ever-growing rewards.

Play begins with an initial wager made at the bottom of the screen. The amount can be adjusted between €0.10 and €100.00 by using the +/- toggles adjacent to the “Choose your bet” value. Clicking on “Confirm” will lock in the amount selected and start the game.

The player is prompted to “Pick your card!” This can be accomplished in either of two ways. The easiest is to click on “Autopick,” which will have the computer automatically reveal one card at random. Alternatively, the player may use the mouse to move the cursor to a desired card and then click on it to reveal its value.

Next, the player will be prompted by a question, “The next card will be?” The choices available are Higher, Lower, Black or Red. It is possible to click on just one, such as “Higher,” or to click on a combination, such as “Red Higher.” The player clicks on the selection(s) desired and the potential amount to be won will display just above the Confirm button. The odds can vary greatly, depending on what card has been dealt and what selection(s) the player has made.

To finalize the wager and continue, the player clicks on “Confirm.” Then, there will be a prompt to “Pick your card!” Again, either Autopick or the cursor may be used to choose one of the eleven cards remaining. When it is revealed to be a winner, the winning amount will be displayed at the bottom of the screen with the options to “Cashout” or “Continue.” Clicking on Cashout will end the game and award the specified prize.

Clicking on “Continue,” however, will repeat the process of predicting the next card, with the option to Cashout after any win. Potential prizes increase with each card drawn, up to a total of eleven times. At each level, all winnings are forfeit if the selection is incorrect, so the key to success in playing Genie’s Hi-Lo is know when to stop and quit while ahead.

There is no Paytable or Instructions section on the game, so players will quickly learn from experience that all Aces are counted low and draws (ties) lose. The biggest payouts come from taking the biggest risks, such as choosing “Lower” when the current card is 4, 5 or 6 or adding “Red” or “Black” in combination with any Higher or Lower wager.

In many online casinos, two or three versions of Genie’s Hi-Lo are made available. For example, at Bet365 the arcade game described above can be accessed in the Games & Keno section along with other arcade games. However, there is also a Genie’s Hi-Lo Jackpot version within the Jackpots section with other progressive games and it features a top prize that is constantly increasing. At the time of this writing it was worth just over £9,400.
