Established in 1997, the Swedish software developer known as Play’n’Go has established a reputation for innovation and attention to detail. These traits are abundantly clear in the 5-reel, 15-payline slot game known as Jewel Box, which offers some of the finest audio and graphics available at online casinos such as Bet365.

The game of Jewel Box is set against a background that resembles crushed velvet and it shows through the translucent positions on the spinning reels. The reel frames have been made to look like the panels of a polished wooden jewel box, and the control are set along the bottom of the display in a matching wood console.

To begin a game of Jewel Box, the player must first select a basic Stake for wagering. This is accomplished by clicking directly on the “Coin Value” indicator below the first reel from €0.01 to €0.25. Then, below the second reel, the number of “Coins” per line must be set from 1 to 5 and, beneath the third reel, the number of “Lines” in play must be selected from 1 to 15 by using the adjacent +/- toggles. Lines can also be selected by clicking directly on the numbered line indicators adjacent to reels 1 and 5. The maximum possible bet is €18.75.

The basic reel symbols used on Jewel Box are gemstones. Catching three or more Emeralds, Sapphires, Rubies or Diamonds will pay line multipliers from 3X to 250X whenever three or more matches appear in a row anywhere on an active payline, from left to right, right to left or even on the middle three reels. Greater rewards are paid for catching three or more symbols for the Necklace, Pendant or Ring, from 20X up to 2500X. Instead of a wild icon, Jewel Box features Wild Multipliers of 2X, 3X, 4X and 5X. These substitute for any of the above symbols and increase the line values accordingly.

The game offers a Scatter Bonus that is triggered whenever three “Jewel Box” icons appear in any position on reels 1, 3 and 5. The player will be asked to select one of the three boxes and reveal the wealth inside, which consists of cash credits of up to 150 times the Total Stake.

There is no other second screen bonus available on Jewel Box, but it does come with the standard Play’n’Go Gamble Feature. After each win, the player has the option to guess a card, red or black to double up the winnings, or to pick a suit—hearts, diamonds, spades or clubs—to quadruple the winnings. Choosing correctly allows gambling again and again, up to five times in succession, and up to a limit of 2,500 coins. Otherwise the “Take Win” button can used to collect the payout and return to the slot game mode. To make card selection a bit easier, a history of the suits of past cards drawn provides some useful information.

One other useful option on this slot is its “Auto Play” function. Clicking on the Auto Play button under the fifth reel will reveal a pop-up menu for selecting from 10 to 50 effortless respins. The player also has the option to set automatic stops on 1) any win, 2) if a bonus game is won, 3) if a single win exceeds a certain maximum, 4) if the funds balance increases by a certain amount or 5) if the balance drops below a specified amount. Otherwise, the game will only pause when the player clicks on “Stop Spin.” Note that the Gamble Feature is disabled during the Auto Play mode.
