Nags to Riches

Thoroughbred flat racing is one of the world’s more exciting and enduring sports, which makes it a fine theme for an action-packed slot game called “Nags to Riches.” This 5-reel, 25-payline application was developed by Ash Gaming for online casinos like Bet365. It features all of the thrills one might expect to find at the track, from big money betting slips and each way betting to trophies, along with exciting free spins and a bonus game with thoroughbreds circling the course to the winning post.

To begin, the player must choose the amount to wager per line by using the +/- buttons located at the bottom of the screen below the third reel. Available denominations range from €0.01 to €2.00 per payline. It is also necessary to select the number of lines to play, from 1 to 25, using the +/- buttons located below reels one and two or by clicking on the line numbers that flank the first and fifth reels. The total amount of the wager shows in the “Total Stake” counter, which can be found beneath the fourth and fifth reels. The maximum total bet is £50.

To set the reels in motion, click on the green “Play” button in the lower right corner of the screen. When the five reels come to rest, any winning combinations will be highlighted by coloured lines. The values of the line wins are displayed in the “Win” counter below reel one, while the “Total Win” amount is shown under reel three. Funds available can be seen in the “Balance” counter at the very top of the screen.

The basic symbols on the reels are the standard cards, Tens through Aces. Catching three or more of them matching on a payline is worth from 4X to 100X. Higher payouts come from matching three or more Punters, Jockeys or Trophies, valued at 30X to 1500X. The Nags to Riches Logo is wild and substitutes for any of the above symbols; payouts of 100X, 1000X or 2500X are awarded for 3, 4 or 5 Logos in a row from left to right on an active payline.

A special aspect of Nags to Riches is its “Each Way” play button. When activated, it doubles the cost of the wager, but it also doubles the payout of any winning combination containing the wild Nags to Riches Logo. Additional, it increases the value of bonuses. For example, catching all three Horseshoe scatter symbols on reels one, three and five awards 10 free spins I normal mode, but 20 free spins in Each Way mode, plus all line wins are doubled. The free spins can be retriggered up to a total of 200 spins normally, or 400 spins when playing Each Way.

A special Bet Slip symbol occasionally appears on the middle reel. Bet Slips are worth additional winnings in the game’s Race Bonus mode and they can be collected and saved until the next race. The Race Bonus can be activated whenever the Bonus symbol appears on the first reel. A horse will beginning racing across the reels and may stop on the second reel (no bonus) or the third, fourth or fifth reel to trigger the bonus mode.

The Race Bonus begins by choosing to back one of eight Owners: Sheik Yerbouti, Lady Chumley-Jones, Viscount of Tittingdon, Smiley O’Reilly, Farmer Calvert, Scaffolder Frank, Crystal Devine or Stableboy Joe. Each owner’s horse has different multipliers and these are multiplied by the winnings for where the horse finishes. Once an owner is selected, the race begins. A prize of some cash value is always awarded no matter where the selected horse finishes, although higher awards are made for reaching the podium and for wagering Each Way.

Nags to Riches also has an “Auto Plays” function. Clicking on the blue Auto Plays button below the second reel allows the player to select from 5 to 25 automated spins from a pop-up menu. There is also an option for “Until Bonus,” which will keep the reels spinning until one of the bonus features is won.
