Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett, Daredevil is a fictional superhero that has appeared in Marvel Comics since 1964. The character started out as a normal man named Matt Murdock living in New York, but when he was blinded by radioactive material in an accident, he became the “Man without Fear,” gaining heightened awareness for all of his other senses, far beyond normal human capabilities.

Daredevil’s heroic exploits began as an act of revenge, as he sought to bring his father’s killers to justice. But he soon encountered all kinds of evil criminals, such as Bullseye and Kingpin, as well other Marvel superheroes—most notably Spiderman and Elektra. In 2003, New Regency Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox released “Daredevil” as a major motion picture starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. It grossed more that $178 million worldwide.

Cryptologic gained the rights to develop Daredevil as an online slot in 2005. Their prototype was a five-reel, nine-payline game with a “pick a box” bonus feature. After Playtech got the go-ahead from Marvel Enterprises to create a competitive line of superhero-themed online slots, they released their own Daredevil version in 2010, with five reels, 20 paylines and an innovative new “Bullseye” feature.

Borrowed from the name of a Daredevil antagonist, the Bullseye is an actual target that the player is invited to place prior to making a spin on any of the game’s 15 reel position. If the villainous Bullseye character symbol lands in the targeted position, the game pays three times the total wager made on that spin. The target can then be repositioned or left in the same spot for as many spins as desired.

Apart from Bullseye, winning symbol combinations on Playtech’s Daredevil slots include two types of martial arts weapons and the traditional card symbols, Nines through Aces. Two or more matched Kingpin or Electra symbols appearing on an active payline are worth 10X to 1,000X. The Daredevil character is wild, substituting for all symbols except the “DD” scatter bonus emblem.

With credit denominations from €0.01 to €5, Daredevil slots allow wagering of 1 to 10 credits per line on any number of paylines up to 20. The maximum bet per spin is 200 credits or €1,000. The value of each credit can be varied by clicking on the pop-up menu under the first reel. To begin the game, click “Spin.” Reels can be paused instantly by clicking “Stop.” Winnings appear in the “Win” display beneath the fifth reel, and the current balance can be seen in the lower left screen corner. Using the Auto Start feature allows for automated play for up to 99 repeat bets.

Scatter bonuses of 5X, 50X, 150X or 500X are multiplied times the total bet and paid out whenever 2, 3, 4 or 5 Bullseye characters appear on any of the reels. Three or more scatters also initiate 10 free spins, with anywhere from zero to three random wilds inserted after each spin. Random wilds substitute for all symbols except scatters, scatter wins are paid before random wilds are added, and extra spins may be retriggered indefinitely by obtaining three or more DD scatter bonus emblems.

Of course like all of Playtech’s Marvel Hero slots, this game is linked to the Marvel Multi-Level Mystery Progressive Jackpot. It awards four tiers of progressive bonuses at random—Power, Extra Power, Super Power, and Ultimate Power. The tiers start out at €50, €500, €5,000 and €100,000, respectively.
