Rapido

Rapido is a Keno-like lottery game. It features 80 numbers, up to ten of which may be selected for each game. Depending on how many of the player’s selections match the ones picked at random in the Rapido draw, payouts are made ranging from £1 up to £80,000.

The version of Rapido played in the U.K. is operated by 49s Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, with headquarters in London. Bets can be made through participating bookmakers, betting shops and online lottery sites, such as those offered by Coral, Jennings, Ladbrokes, Betfred, William Hill and others.

One aspect of this game that attracts great interest is the speed at which new drawings are held—one every 15 minutes—hence the name, Rapido. Six drawing take place each Monday through Thursday with four

drawings on Friday. The first draw each day is scheduled for 10:15 in the morning. A total of 20 numbers are drawn from a group of lozenges marked 1 to 80. Players may wager on one to ten numbers, but bets on more than ten numbers are not accepted. It is not necessary to match all of the selections to win. For example, when choosing five numbers, matching as few as three will pay £2 for a £1 wager. Players are, of course, advised to check with local betting shops to see exactly how much can be bet and won. The standard payouts for a £1 wager are as follows:

4
Numbers Matched Numbers Selected
12345678910
0£1£1£1
1£3.25
2£13£1£1
3£45£8£2£1
£64£20£7£2£1 5 £540 £80 £20 £6 £4 £4 6 £1,250 £400 £50 £25 £20 7 £6,400 £1,600 £250 £80 8 £24,000 £6,400 £400 9 £64,000 £8,000 10 £80,000

Another attractive feature of Rapido is the availability of a side bet called “Heads or Tails.” The 80-number grid used for each Rapido draw is divided into two sections: 1~40 is known as Heads and 41~80 is called Tails. Players can predict whether 11 or more of the 20 numbers that are drawn will come up Heads or Tails. They can also wager on exactly ten of each coming up, a so-called “Level” result.

Payouts on winning Heads or Tails bets are Evens (1/1), while a winning wager on Level pays 3/1. There is one catch, however. Because the odds are so low, the standard starting wager is usually £5, not £1. Also, the win amounts differ slightly in Ireland. Again, local betting shops should be consulted to find out exactly how much can be bet and won.

Rapido draws are conducted live on SIS every day, Monday to Friday, and occasionally on specially designated Saturdays and Sundays. Bets are accepted on draws right up to the official start time broadcast on SIS, and results are displayed in betting shops almost immediately following each draw. The results of previous draws can be referenced online at the 49s.co.uk web site.

Players should be aware that if for any reason a draw does not take place, bets will stand for the next available Rapido draw, unless cancelled by mutual consent with the bookmaker. Also, if the same numbers appear more than once on a bet slip, the second time the number appears will be ignored and the bet will be settled at the correct odds for the valid numbers.
