QPR are the outright favourites for the Championship and they will get their season underway on August 3rd with a home game against Sheffield Wednesday with the London side a best priced 8/11 (bet365/STAN JAMES) for an opening day victory. Reading also have a home game to start the Championship and it could be a tricky one against an Ipswich side who ended last season well. The Royals are 10/11 (GENERAL) which looks much too short. New Wigan boss Owen Coyle will have to get the season underway away to Barnsley who are 21/10 (BETVICTOR) for victory while a Wigan win is 11/8 (SKYBET/CORAL).
The two live games that weekend from the Championship are the ones that put Burnley against Bolton and Derby at home to Blackburn on the sunday.
The best bet in this division is in taking Charlton to get something from Bournemouth. The London side ended the season with a remarkable run of form losing just one of their last 11 games and they look over-priced at 5/2 (SKYBET) for victory against the Cherries.
In League One Wolves are the favourites for the title and they face a tricky opener with Preston on day one. The Lancashire side ended the season well under Simon Grayson and have made an encouraging start in the transfer market. The Midlands side can be backed at 13/8 (CORAL) for an opening day victory while the home win is 15/8 (bet365). Peterborough were relegated on the last day of the season and will start their campaign to bounce back with a home game with Swindon. Posh are 11/10 (BETVICTOR/william hill) for the opening day victory. Bristol City and Bradford were two divisions apart last season but now meet on the opening day of the League One season. CORAL have City as the evens favourites while Bradford can be backed at 18/5 (SKYBET/BETVICTOR).
The opening game of the season comes in this division and it is on Friday night when the television cameras will broadcast a battle of two of the oldest league clubs in Sheff U and Notts County.
The best bet in this division is in the game between Walsall and Tranmere two sides who ended the last season in very different form. The Saddlers ended the season losing just one of their last 16 games while Tranmere won just three of their last 17. Walsall then look good value at 13/10 (CORAL).
In League Two newboys Newport begin with a home game against Accrington and the Welsh side are 6/5 (paddy Power/ladbrokes/CORAL) for an opening day victory. Also new to the Football League this season are Mansfield and they start the campaign with an away game against Scunthorpe. Scunny are evens (GENERAL) for victory while the draw is 5/2 (GENERAL) and a Mansfield victory is 3/1 (SKYBET).
The outright betting is headed by Portsmouth who open their campaign against Oxford and are 17/20 (BETVICTOR) to gain all three points. Big money Fleetwood are also expected to have a good season and they open their campaign with a home game against Dagenham and Redbridge. The home side are as short as 8/11 (CORAL) for victory while the visitors can be backed at 5/1 (BETVICTOR). The best bet though has to be in siding with Burton at 5/2 (bet365) to get something from their visit to Cheltenham.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Charlton away to Bournemouth, 5/2 (SKYBET)
SILVER: Walsall home to Tranmere, 13/10 (CORAL)
BRONZE: Burton away to Cheltenham, 5/2 (bet365)
