It is another good weekend of Horse Racing across Britain and Ireland. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from the big races.

Twenty runners are set to go in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday afternoon. Here is what you need to look for in a horse before selecting:

A: Have won at or over 1m 6f before on the distance
B: Carrying 8-11 or less
C: Drawn from one to 14
D: Aged six or younger
E: Finished fifth or better last time out

This reduces the field to eight including the two market leaders Mubaraza and Tominator. Jonjo O’Neill’s Tominator finished third in the Chester Cup though goes off 10lb higher in this race. Mubaraza was a highly respectable fourth last time out in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting. Both horses have to be respected though with eight of the last 11 winners having gone off at double figures it makes sense to look around for a bit of betting value.

The recommend bet is the Richard Fahey trained Ingleby Spirit as it ticks all the key stat boxes. The horse finished ahead of Tominator last time out in the Chester Cup yet is expected to go off at double the price.

Later that evening (18:30) Ruler of the World is seeking the English and Irish Derby double at the Curragh aiming to be only the 17th horse to complete this feat. The Aidan O’Brien runner will certainly take all the beating with three wins from three runs including a victory over the course and distance. In addition this race has been dominated by the trainer in recent years training a remarkable nine of the last 12 race winners and each of the last seven.

The nearest challenge is expected to come from Libertarian who will be looking to reverse the form from the English Derby when coming second and Trading Leather who placed in the Dante and Irish Stakes before landing the listed Silver Stakes here. The recommended bet in this race is in taking Sugar Boy to win in betting without the favourite if such a market becomes available on Saturday. The P J Prendegast runner has four wins and a second from the last five starts including victory over Libertarian and Galileo Rock in a classic trial at Sandown back in April.

Paddy Power are the only firm at time of writing (Friday evening) to have priced up the Pretty Polly Stakes from the Curragh on Sunday. Ten runners are scheduled to go with the Tommy Stack runner Alive Alive Oh heading the market. The Irish Oaks winner will face stiff competition from the Aidan O’Brien duo WAS and SAY and the Dermot Weld trained Princess Highway. The recommend bet on this race is to take La Collina each-way. The Kevin Prendergast runner always manages to find one better having come second on last two starts. The horse though is a consistent sort who is capable of a top three run at each-way double figure prices.

SILVER: Sugar Boy without the favourite in the Irish Derby, Saturday, 18:30 Curragh
