The Manchester derby is always a hard fought affair and with Manchester City now at the top of the Premier League challenging regularly for the title, the match has taken on even more significance than just local pride in recent years.

Manuel Pellegrini will be concerned by his team`s recent poor run and even admitted that he was worried with the way in which his team has been performing. A disappointing start to their Champions League campaign, highlighted by the recent 2-2 draw against CSKA Moscow in their latest European fixture seems to have transferred to their domestic form too, losing both of their last two matches. A defeat away to West Ham in the Premier League last week was compounded with a home defeat to Newcastle United in the Capital One Cup.

Manchester United do not have any mid-week fixtures to concern themselves with and this may have something to do with their stop-start season. With the team and fans seemingly delighted with a home draw against Chelsea, this highlights where the club are currently at in terms of challenging the top teams and it`s no surprise that Manchester City are still favourites for this match at 19/20 with ladbrokes. Having been used as a late substitute, Sergio Aguero will come in to this match fresh and with fond memories of his last home Premier League game where he scored all 4 goals in the win against Tottenham Hotspur and is 4/1 with paddypower to score the first goal of the game. With main creative talent David Silva likely to miss the match through injury, it`s a chance for Samir Nasri to return to the team and be the creative force from midfield. The Frenchman is 7/2 with Coral to score at any time of the match.

Manchester United go in to the match as 10/3 outsiders with bet365 and this may be something to do with their poor away form this season, having not won an away game in all competitions under manager Louis van Gaal. If this is to change then it`s sure to be because of their attacking prowess as opposed to a solid defensive display and with Wayne Rooney available again following suspension the England striker can be backed at 8/1 with ladbrokes to get the opening goal of the game. The recent promising spell of games by Manchester United has coincided with the introduction of Marouane Fellaini to the midfield, providing a physical presence that was missing. Finding his goal scoring touch at West Bromwich Albion, Fellaini will be hoping to build on this and strike again in the derby and the Belgian is 11/2 with BetVictor to score at any time.

With both teams having difficulty keeping goals out, it`s hard to imagine this one ending in a goalless draw. Manchester United have conceded 10 goals in their last five matches and Manchester City 7 goals in their last four games. In addition to this, over the same period of matches, the teams have combined to score 17 goals and the yes market for both teams to score can be backed at 4/7 with boylesports.

Manchester United will be coming in to the game with a lot more confidence than they would have expected a few weeks ago and with Manchester City struggling for form at the moment, a draw with both teams to score at 15/4 with BetVictor looks good value.
