Can Tryster Justify Easter Classic Favouritism?

Easter Classic

There are currently eight runners set to line up for tomorrow`s Lingfield Easter Classic, each entrant looking to claim the 10f All Weather class two title to win their connections a share of the £124,000 first prize. Charlie Appleby`s Tryster is the current favourite for this Surrey feature race on All Weather Championships day. The four-year-old course and distance winner can be backed at the best price of 4/6 at a number of bookmakers.

Tryster`s course and distance win came in the Winter Derby last time out, the Godolphin charge seeing off Grendisar, who also lines up tomorrow, by three-quarters-of-a-length. That Group Three win was the fourth straight victory for this consistent charge who has proved himself time and again at this distance and on synthetic surfaces. Ridden by William Buick, Tryster still looks progressive and could be well placed to justify favouritism.

His nearest market rival is Grendisar who can be backed at the best price of 9/2. These odds are available at Betbright, Coral, paddy Power and sportingbet. Marco Botti`s five-year-old has a wealth of experience and picked up back-to-back listed wins at Lingfield at this distance prior to his missing out on the Winter Derby title. The 109-rated Invincible Spirit-sired charge will continue to be aided by sheepskin cheekpieces as he looks to reverse the form on the odds-on favourite.

Complicit is another Winter Derby entrant, the four-year-old just missing out on the runners-up place by a neck when finishing fourth in a bunch finish. Whilst Paul Cole`s charge will be another that will be looking to reverse the form on Tryster, he does have a solid record at Lingfield, having secured two wins at the track from four attempts. His other failed attempt in Surrey involved an incident on the bend. It would be no surprise to see this son of Captain Rio be involved in the closing stages at the best price of 13/2 (paddy Power).

Solar Deity is the second of Marco Botti`s entrants, he being the only trainer to be two-handed in tomorrow`s feature race. Whilst he failed to trouble the winners enclosure at all last season, he did finish third in the listed Magnolia Stakes, just two lengths shy of former St Leger runner-up Romsdal. The horse is also a two-time course winner though has never been victorious at this 10f distance and his last victory came right back in 2013. Botti`s second string must continue to improve on his Magnolia Stakes form should he feature tomorrow. The Ryan Moore-ridden charge completed last year`s Easter Classic in fourth and can be backed at 16/1 (Betvictor, boylesports, Coral) to go three better this time around.

A ride around Lingfield will only be Shalaman`s second outing in England following his completion of last year`s Jorvik handicap in dead-last position. The Matthew Smith runner has picked up two victories already in 2015, both coming at this distance at Dundalk. Former Group Three runner-up Parish Hall was seen off by a head on his first outing of the year before his second consecutive victory was secured by a neck. This experienced type is used to springing a surprise and there could be each-way value here with him currently priced up at 25/1 at Coral.

The remaining three runners are the large outsiders of the race. George Margarson`s Rebellious Guest will be looking to scoop the top prize at a price of 33/1 (Numerous). Meanwhile Gaelic Silver, who at nine-years-old is the elder statesman of the field, can be selected at 66/1 at most bookmakers. Also at 66/1 (32red, 888sport, betfair, Betvictor, boylesports) is Jack Of Diamonds for Roger Teal.
