The presence of Bradford in the League Cup final last season will have given hope to teams from across the four divisions that it could be them who are turning out Wembley on March 2nd 2014 for the final.

One side who look value to be taking part in that final are Southampton. The Saints have had a good start to the season taking four points from their two league games and after investing this summer they will look to do more than just survive in the top flight. The League Cup will be of real interest as they will take note of the fact that Swansea and Birmingham have won the title in recent years and it is 1976 since they last won one of the major trophies (the Johnstones Paint does not count). The Saints are a strong side who are difficult to break down and they look value at 40/1 (GENERAL).

The live game on Tuesday night in the League Cup is Liverpool at home to Notts County (7:45PM, SKY) which is a strange choice as you will imagine that the Merseyside side should have too much for their League One opponents even if they rest a few. Liverpool are unbackable at 2/11 (BETVICTOR) while the draw is a 13/2 (GENERAL) chance and a Notts County victory is as big as 17/1 (BETVICTOR). Team news is of course important but if Raheem Sterling starts he could be the value selection in the anytime scorer market at 2/1 (bet365/BETVICTOR/ladbrokes).

Of the games Tuesday I like the look of Newport to get something from their visit to West Brom. The Welsh side have had a good start to the season taking seven points from their opening four games and after being out of the league in the last few years this will be an important game for them. In the last round they knocked out Brighton so confidence will be high they can get something from a trip to the Hawthorns especially as West Brom have yet to score a goal this season. The Baggies do not have the biggest of depth in their squad and so look vulnerable to a shock. Take the 3/1 (bet365/BETVICTOR) on the away win/draw double chance though as with everything in this tournament keep stakes low.

The live game Wednesday night in the League Cup is between Morecambe and Newcastle (7:45pm,SKY) as the home side look to continue the poor start to the season the Magpies have had. Newcastle have one point and about as many shots on goal from their two league games this season. The Shrimps picked up their first league victory of the new season at home to Exeter on Saturday and are 6/1 (bet365) for victory. The best bet in this game has to be the 11/2 (CORAL) on Kevin Ellison to score anytime after his brace at the weekend. Newcastle might have kept a clean sheet against West Ham at the weekend though they still allowed the visitors a number of chances and they look short of rotation options at the back.

Walsall look value to get something from their game at Stoke. When you have a home side who struggles for goals and is likely to rest players you have the makings for a shock. Walsall have goals in them and with just two defeats in their last 11 represent decent value. Take Walsall/draw in the double chance market at 9/4 (bet365/BETVICTOR/STAN JAMES)

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Newport/Draw double chance v West Brom, 3/1 (BET365/BETVICTOR)
SILVER: Walsall/Draw double chance v Stoke, 9/4 (BET365/BETVICTOR/STAN JAMES)
BRONZE: Kevin Ellison to score anytime v Newcastle, 11/2 (CORAL)
