Villa value to get something from game with Liverpool

Dinah Washington won a Grammy for signing What a Difference a Day Made in 1959,which coincidentally was about the last time Arsene Wenger spent any money. The Gunners boss though can take comfort from the events of Wednesday night where a 3-0 victory over Fenerbahce all but secured their place in the Champions League group stages. This is a huge weight of pressure of the club and should enable them to attract a better quality of players before the closing of the transfer window. Something else happened Wednesday that means Wenger can afford to relax a little bit more when Aston Villa played Chelsea they showed the result at the Emriates was no one-off and they were very unlucky not to come away with something from their visit to Stamford Bridge. This has great relevance for the two live games on Saturday in the Premier League though first let us start at Craven Cottage

The lunchtime game is a London derby between Fulham and Arsenal with the Gunners the 23/20 (TOTESPORT/betfred/CORAL) favourites. The head-to-head record suggest they could be value as they have lost just three of their last 24 against the Whites in the Premier League while the Gunners ranked third in games against bottom half sides on their travels. Fulham meanwhile ranked third bottom for games won at home against sides in the top half of the table, only relegated QPR and Wigan had a worse record.

The signs suggest an away victory and I would not be shocked to see it happen the problem is the Gunners played in Turkey on Wednesday night and then have to play again Saturday lunchtime while Fulham have had a week to rest.. Arsenal do not have the current squad depth to rest and rotate either so I will give this match betting a swerve.

The bet in this game could be in the anytime scorer market which is headed by Olivier Giroud who has two in two games and is a 9/5 (BETVICTOR) chance while Theo Walcott is a 9/4 (SPREADEX) chance. Dimitar Berbatov is 12/5 (SKYBET/STAN JAMES) and he has scored four times against the Gunners in his career while Darren Bent who has scored six in his last eight league gamnes v Arsenal is a 45/17 (unibet) chance. I like the look Tomas Rosicky to score at anytime at 5/1 (SPREADEX) which is a value price for a player playing just behind the forward who got away three shots in the opening game.

The evening game seems Aston Villa at home to Liverpool as the difficult start for Paul Lambert’s side continues. Bookmakers make Liverpool the 19/20 (BETVICTOR/CORAL) favourites for the game which looks much too short as they won just one game away from home against top ten sides last season where you suspect Villa will finish this season. They did though draw five of these games so the draw could be a player at 11/4 (bet365/BETVICTOR) while a Villa victory is 16/5 (william hill).

Aston Villa can take heart from the fact that Liverpool rank in the bottom half of the shots allowed category after the opening day and had a Simon Mignolet penalty save and a weak Stoke attack to thank for the fact they did not concede at least once. Benteke is on fire at the moment with Agbonlahor and Weimann also impressing. Take Villa on the Asian Handicap at 39/40 (bet365/188 BET) with a +0.5 start which will pay out the draw or a Villa win.

One final bet in this game is on Andreas Weimann at 10/3 (ladbrokes) in the anytime scorer market as he is averaging two shots per game and at that rate it is a matter of time before he joins Benteke on the scoreline.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Aston Villa +0.5 on the Asian Handicap, 19/20 (BETVICTOR/CORAL)
SILVER: Andreas Weimann to score anytime, 10/3 (ladbrokes)
BRONZE: Tomas Rosicky to score anytime, 5/1 (SPREADEX)
