Cotai Glory, last seen dispatching jockey George Baker just yards from the finishing post, is set to be supplemented into Sunday`s (5th October) Prix De L`Abbaye De Longchamp his trainer Charlie Hills explained in a press release on his website.
The 2-year-old colt was two lengths clear of second-placed Beacon when unseating Baker in Doncaster`s Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes back in September. The mistake eventually saw Richard Hannon`s Beacon and Dominic Elsworth`s 50/1 outsider Astrophysics tussle for the win, the former securing victory by a head.
Speaking to Charliehills.com, the Lambourn-based trainer was keen to make explicitly clear that the 25,000 Euro supplementary charge would only be paid on the condition that he was sure the ground would be perfect for likely his only entrant in the race.
`We`re watching the weather closely and if, as indicated, it stays dry in Paris until Sunday we will supplement Cotai Glory for the Abbaye - however we must re-iterate the ground has to be fast enough for him to run.`
The 36 year old went on to state that the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes victor had recovered from the Flying Childers `mishap` and that he is confident of Cotai Glory being competitive should the ground be suitably fast. `He`s in great form and came out of the Doncaster mishap fine.` He continued. `It`s a totally different kettle of fish taking on older horses rather than two year olds but we are pretty confident, given his conditions, he could be very competitive.`
Owned by Ms Yap and Mr Ma, Cotai Glory is 11/1 with betfair and Racebets to bounce back from his disastrous run last time out.
Two-time Group 1 winner Sole Power is set to go off favourite for trainer Eddie Lynam and owner Mrs Power of the paddy Power bookmaking dynasty. The winner of Ascot`s King Stand Stakes prior to his Nunthorpe success at York, Sole Power has been backed into 5/2 (Numerous) favouritism despite being unable to fend off G Force in the six furlong Sprint Cup at Haydock in September. The gelding will be better suited to Longchamp`s five furlong dash with connections buoyed by the news that their Sprint Cup rival is likely to be withdrawn to concentrate on Ascot`s Champions Sprint.
The Power clan will be looking to frank their form over Stepper Point who has twice finished second against the more experienced Sole Power. William Muir`s front-running five year old, a Group 3 winner at the Curragh, has at least half a length to find on his seven-year-old compatriot though Muir has warned against focusing solely on his colt`s well-backed half-brother.
`He`s [Sole Power] a great sprinter and we`ve been just behind him in the two Group Ones this year but there`s not just Sole Power.` The Linkslade Stables man told At the Races.
`He [Stepper Point] runs solid races every time. The last three years he`s been there or thereabouts in every race. For a stable like ours it`s fantastic for us to have a horse like him.
`The Abbaye is a great race. We`ve never beaten Sole Power so I`m not going to say any different and say we`re going to Paris and will beat it, because we`ve never beaten him.`
Eight to one (Numerous) says that step point will finally get one over on his long time rival. Catcall is one of only five entrants from the home nation of France though is the most favourably backed at 14/1 (betfair, ladbrokes, paddy Power). The other tricolor chances are 33/1 shot Goken, Rangali at 20/1 (Skybet, sportingbet), Spirit Quartz, the 66/1 (Coral) outsider and Son Cesio (40/1 - Coral).
