Frankie Dettori will ride Ruler of the World in the Prix De L`Arc De Triomphe on Sunday (5th October) following the 43-year-old`s replacement on last year`s winner Treve (10/1 - Numerous). Three-time Arc victor Dettori is currently unbeaten in his last two rides around Longchamp after guiding the Aiden O`Brien trained 4-year-old to a one and a half length victory in the Group 2 Prix Foy Stakes and finishing first on Mirza in a four furlong dash on the same card. Ruler of the World can be backed at 16/1 in the ante-post market.
The former Derby winner is co-owned by John Magnier and Michael Tabor along with Al Shaqab Racing. Harry Herbert, racing manager at Al Shaqab told journalists of his delight at having booked Dettori for the ride and how he hopes for `a big run` from his horse.
`He`s in great form at home and it is fantastic that Frankie is on board so we are looking forward to Sunday,
`He`s lightly raced and fresh. He looked on the big side in the parade ring last time out [at Longchamp] so hopefully that will have sharpened him up so we are looking for a big run.`
Ruler of the World finished seventh in last year`s renewal of the race following a place in the Group 2 Prix Niel. Under the stewardship of regular jockey Ryan Moore, the horse looked uncomfortable on the soft surface having never won on anything softer than good and expectations have been raised in the knowledge that the ground is unlikely to be in the same condition again this year.
A horse who finished one better in 2013 was Al Kazeem, connections of which are hoping to try their luck again on Sunday thanks to also being better suited to the conditions. Owner John Deer remarked that he was `keen` on the chances of the 6-year-old, the eldest participant in the race.
`He seems to be in good form and is going nicely on the gallops and we`re keen to give it a go. I`m not sure what the ground will be like, possibly good to firm.`
Deer then went on to describe the availability of the horse`s regular jockey, James Doyle as being a `big help`, though Al Kazeem`s only win this season came in a Group 3 at Windsor ridden by George Baker.
The Roger Charlton-trained Al Kazeem can be backed at 66/1 with most bookmakers.
Deservedly occupying favouritism at the minute is Oaks triumph, Taghrooda currently a 5/1 (Coral, ladbrokes, paddy Power, Racebets, Stan James) offering.
Prior to her success in the Oaks, Taghrooda justified favouritism in the Listed Pretty Polly at Newmarket to defeat her nearest rival, Luca Cumani`s Jordan Princess by six lengths. It was then to Epsom for the filly who took the step up to twelve furlongs as well as could be expected putting talent such as Group 2 winner Tarfasha to the sword.
Paul Hanagan is set to take up the ride on the favourite once again, whose only defeat came at the hands of Tapestry in the Yorkshire Oaks last time out. Tapestry is a late supplementary entry for Sunday`s feature race with Racebets 16/1 on the Aiden O`Brien-trained filly getting one over on her rival once again.
Tapestry bounced back from two disappointing performances, finishing dead last in the 1,000 Guineas and sixth in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Ascot to grab a place in the Irish Oaks before her victory at York. Also well-backed for the historic middle distance spectacular include Ectot (13/2 - 32red, 888sport, unibet) with jockey Gregory Benoist having defected from usual partner Avenir Certain (9/1 - 32red, 888sport, unibet), Japanese chances Gold Ship (12/1 - paddy Power), Harp Star (8/1 - Numerous) and Just A Way (7/1 Numerous) and the William Buick-ridden German raider Ivanhowe (16/1 - Betvictor).
