AC Milan vs. Napoli - Betting preview and odds

October 4, 2015 19:45pm - Stadio Giuseppe Meazza

Serie A

AC Milan and Napoli sit side-by-side in the middle of the Serie A table ahead of Sunday´s clash at the San Siro.

Milan off the pace

With only six games gone, Milan are already six points adrift of the leaders - and the same distance above the drop zone. For a team that has European qualification aspirations, three defeats in the first six games is not the ideal start.

After losing to Genoa at Stadio Luigi Ferraris last weekend, I Rossoneri will be hoping to bounce back with a win against Napoli on home soil. Their cause was not helped in the last game when centre-back Alessio Romagnoli was dismissed shortly before the break. Already one nil down, they struggled to find a way back into the game as the home side held firm.

Napoli stuck in the middle

Napoli are now unbeaten in five after disposing of reigning champions Juventus by two goals to one on home soil last weekend. During that five-game run, they picked up nine points and are now positioned at tenth place in the table.

The loss against Sassuolo on the opening day of the season remains the only defeat on the record of Maurizio Sarri´s team. However, they will need to avoid drawing too many games if they want to stay in touch with the European places.

Team news

Milan will be without the suspended Romagnoli who was sent off in last week’s game, while Mario Balotelli (groin) and Keisuke Honda (virus) are both doubtful. Other players on the injury list inlcude Phillippe Mexes, Jérémy Menez, Ignazio Abate, Mbaye Niang and Michael Essien.

For the Partenopei, Lorenzo Insigne is a doubt after picking up a knee injury.

Betting odds and tips

The bookies are having trouble separating these two and when you look at the league table it’s not hard to see why. However, Milan may have home advantage but Napoli are coming into form at just the right time and are looking more dangerous with each game that passes. They have also scored more goals and conceded less than their opponents, and have just one defeat to their name. You can back SSC Napoli to win at 8/5 with Betfred.

In the First Goalscorer Market, Gonzalo Higuain is available at 9/2 with Bet365, or you can back the same player in the Anytime Goalscorer market at 6/4 with 888sport.
