Premier League preview and odds: Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City

October 02 , 2016 15:15pm - White Hart Lane, London

Premier League

The Premier League`s only two unbeaten sides will square off on Sunday when third-ranked Tottenham Hotspur welcome pace-setters Manchester City to White Hart Lane in the weekend`s standout fixture.

Tottenham out to end Pep’s perfect Premier League record

Tottenham Hotspur were one of the most consistent teams throughout last season until a slight wobble during the run-in scuppered their title hopes. This season, they have started in a similar vein and remain one of only two clubs yet to be defeated in the top flight (City being the other).

Ideally, Mauricio Pochettino`s men need to win this game to put some pressure on the league leaders but a draw would certainly keep them in the hunt. They currently sit in third place, two points behind Liverpool and four points adrift of their opponents.

The Londoners come into this game on the back of three-straight wins away to Stoke City (0-4) at home to Sunderland (1-0) and most recently, away to Middlesbrough (2-1). No team in the league has conceded as few goals as Spurs although they are eighth in the goal-scoring charts.

Meanwhile, Manchester City will look to preserve their 100% Premier League record by beating one of their title rivals in their own back yard. Pep Guardiola failed to a win a competitive match as City boss for the first time on Wednesday night when his side were held to a 3-3 draw away to Brendan Rodgers` Celtic in the UEFA Champions League.

The Sky Blues currently sit on top of the league with a maximum total of 18 points, having outscored everyone except Jurgen Klopp`s Liverpool, while only Sunday`s opponents have conceded fewer goals. In their last league outing, they cruised to a 3-1 win away to Swansea City.

Team news

Tottenham`s injury problems continue with Danny Rose, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier, Moussa Dembele and Harry Kane all injured or doubtful for this game.

Meanwhile, City will have to make do without the injured trio of Captain Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne and Fabian Delph, while Spanish forward Nolito is still suspended.

Betting odds and tips

The league`s tightest defence versus the league`s joint most prolific attack should produce an intriguing encounter. Spurs need to push for the win and City are not the types to sit back, so this game should produce a few goals. In recent encounters between these teams, that has certainly been the case, with goals flowing at a rate of 3 or more in nine of the last 10 meetings.

Over 3.5 goals is tempting at a price of 15/8 but the 4/6 on offer for Over 2.5 goals looks like the safest option for this game.

In the anytime goal scorer market, Heung-Min Son could also be worth backing. The 24-year-old has bagged four goals in three starts and is set to feature again in the absence of Harry Kane.

You can back Over 2.5 Goals at 4/6 with Bet365, while Heung-Min Son is available at 15/8 to score anytime, also with Bet365.
