Both Leicester City and Burnley will be looking to bounce back from comprehensive defeats as the pair meet tomorrow (4th October) in their Premier League clash at the Foxes` King Power Stadium. The home side come into the game after having been unable to follow up their impressive 5-3 victory at home to Manchester United with a result away at Crystal Palace. Second-half goals from Fraizer Campbell and captain Mile Jedinak saw Nigel Pearson`s men sent back to the East Midlands without anything to show for their `under par` performance. A blip in what has been a fruitful start to their first season back in the Premier League, last season`s Championship champions sit in tenth position with eight points from a maximum of 18.
Things aren`t going quite so well for fellow new-boys Burnley, who finished as runners-up behind City in the second tier. Without a win and having scored only a single goal in six matches, the North West side were dispatched with ease by West Bromwich Albion. A Saido Berahino brace was sandwiched between goals from Craig Dawson and Graham Dorrans to send the relegation favourites to dead bottom of the Premier League. The Turf Moor outfit have three points. It`s no surprise then that Leicester are the 4/5 favourites with most bookmakers to send the winless side into a further tailspin. These odds are justified by the fact that City are unbeaten at home in the league this season against class opposition such as Europe hopefuls Manchester United and Everton and title contenders Arsenal. The team`s only King Power defeat of the 2014/15 season came in the Capital One Cup when a second-string team lost by a goal to nil against League 2 promotion-hunters Shrewsbury Town. Burnley have only earned one point from a possible nine from their away games and are 77/19 (888sport, unibet) to pick up their first victory on their travels at Leicester. Draw specialists, 11/4 (Numerous) says the Clarets will share the spoils once again come quarter to five. Dyche will be working on a formula to try and overcome the away side`s plentiful issues in front of goal with last season`s high-scoring pair of Danny Ings and Sam Vokes still not available for selection after suffering injuries in the pre-season. Failing to hit the back of the net in the 90 minutes against Leicester will see the club hold a dubious honour, the team with the longest number of minutes played without a goal in all competitions. This record currently stands at 696 minutes though the Clarets may usurp it, potentially remaining goalless for 706 minutes. Watford signing Marvin Sordell may come in to replace Lukas Jutkiewicz in an effort to break their duck, though betway are offering 6/4 on the hoodoo remaining and the honour being received.
In a press conference, Dyche told journalists that the absence of Ings and Vokes was comparable with Liverpool being without 2014/15`s Premier League top scorers Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.
`Look at Liverpool with Suarez and Sturridge. They`ve obviously found it tough to lose those players. We`ve had Vokes and Ings who were flying last season.` The 43-year-old remarked.
`Brendan`s team will come good, no doubt, but they have spent £100m. We aren`t that type of club. We know the challenge and it`s going to be tough.`
Jutkiewicz is the bookies` favourite to net for Burnley, priced at 41/10 with 888sport. Sordell is a 9/2 (paddy Power) shout to score at any time.
Having bagged nine, the Foxes are quite comfortably one of the highest scoring teams in the division despite being unable to unlock Palace last time out. With a full strength squad to pick from, fans of Pearson`s side will anticipate scoring two or three without reply (2-0 17/2, 3-0 16/1 - both Betvictor) but sometimes football isn`t that straight forward.
Is it?
