While much of the attention over the summer months will be on the World Cup in Brazil, domestic clubs all over Europe will also be making preparations for the forthcoming season. There are a raft of massive transfer moves already being rumoured, but which ones are likely to come to fruition? There is a healthy betting market on this very subject, so here’s a rundown of where to put your money in the transfer merry-go-round.
Diego Costa to Chelsea
The Atletico Madrid striker will hope to win the World Cup with Spain in the summer to top off an incredible season, after Atleti’s heroic La Liga title win. Unfortunately, they are now also highly likely to lose some of their key players, and Costa seems certain to be one of them. Chelsea need a striker desperately, and Costa’s muscular style would suit Mourinho down to the ground.
Koke to Barcelona
Atletico may also lose their key midfield player, with Barcelona apparently ready to dump Cesc Fabregas and begin the arduous process of rebuilding their central midfield. Koke is young, extremely skilful and already in the national team, and would seem to fit the bill for the Barca style perfectly.
Karim Benzema to Arsenal
Another top Premier League club in desperate need of a central striker is Arsenal. In all honesty, Olivier Giroud has done a pretty good job for them, but most observers believe that they need a striker with pace. Benzema obviously fits the bill, and with Real seeking another galactico striker, the number one choice for the French national team is unlikely to be willing to play second fiddle. Wenger’s history of successful French imports at Arsenal may swing a deal.
Adam Lallana to Liverpool
This deal appears to be stalling, but in the end I believe that Southampton will be forced to sell and Lallana will join up with his former Southampton team-mate Rickie Lambert at Anfield.
Cesc Fabregas to Manchester City
There are big rumours that Yaya Toure may be about to demand a move away from the Etihad Stadium, and if this occurs then Fabregas could be an obvious replacement. Barca are willing to sell Fabregas, and with the midfielder likely to be Premier League bound, Arsenal don’t really need another attacking midfielder and given Manchester United’s lack of European football, this would surely be too much of a step down for Fabregas. Don’t bet against seeing him in a City kit next season.
Luis Suarez to Real Madrid
Liverpool will desperately fight this move, and it is possible that Suarez may wish to stay in Liverpool where his family are settled. But this transfer makes sense for everyone except the Merseyside club. Suarez is the big name that the Real hierarchy crave, he’s one of the few players in the world who would improve their first eleven, and culturally Suarez would obviously fit into Spanish football and Madrid life extremely well. This will be the deal of the summer if it comes off, and would be good news for Arsenal who could then nab Benzema.
