Wednesday is the quarter-final day for the Men with the pick of the matches looking like being the one between David Ferrer and Juan Martin Del Potro. The Spaniard is the 8/11 (boylesports/sportingbet/paddy Power) favourite and will be boosted by the head-to-head record which he leads 6-2 including victories in both grass meetings. These two met last year at Wimbledon with Ferrer coming through in straight sets and he is 7/2 (paddy Power/william hill) to win 3-0 here. After his Bronze at the Olympics Del Potro seems to be much more comfortable on grass this time around so take the Argentine player to come out on top at 13/10 (888sport). Del Potro has not dropped a set yet while all of the Ferrer matches have gone to at least four sets.
Poland is guaranteed to have a Male player in the semi-final of a Grand Slam for the first time in history but will it be Lukasz Kubot or Jerry Janowicz. Janowicz is the 7/19 (888 SPORT) favourite for the match with Kubot available at 5/2 (betfred). I tipped up Janowicz at the weekend as a good each-way chance for the tournament and I have seen nothing that would change my mind. That being said though nothing about these prices excites and with better bets available on the day I will be giving this match a miss.
Novak Djokovic takes on Tomas Berdych with the Serb leading the head-to-head record 13-2. Djokovic is 1/7 (sportingbet/CORAL) for victory while a Berydch victory is 6/1 (boylesports. Berdych clearly is a talented player and will take heart from the fact that he has a victory over the Serb at Wimbledon back in 2010. The Czech player also won the last meeting between the pair which took place in Rome this year. Djokovic though should have won that one and will win this one as the greatest returner should be able to cope with the Berydch serve. Such is the great form Djokovic is showing I think he looks value at 20/19 (sportingbet/BWIN/betway) to win the match in straight sets .
Andy Murray will take on Fernando Verdasco in the quarter-finals after coming through the fourth round in straight sets against Mikhail Youhzny. His victory over the Russian was not without a few causes for concern as he had his service broken for the first time in the tournament while the back appeared to be causing him a few problems.
The Brit holds the 8-2 lead in the head-to-head record with his quarter-final opponent Verdasco. The Spaniard is no mug though and after dropping a set in his opener with Xavier Malisse he has gone on to win each of his last three matches without dropping a set. I think it might be worth a play on Verdasco to with the opening set at big odds of 5/1 (betway). Don’t get me wrong I think Murray will win this game I just think he was a little off in the early stages against Youhzny. Throw in the fact that the Brit has yet to face a left-hander on the tour this season and it might take him a while to get his game together.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Juan Martin Del Potro to beat David Ferrer, 13/10 (888 SPORT)
SILVER: Novak Djokovic to win beat Tomas Berdych 3-0, 20/19 (SPORTINGBET/BWIN/betway)
BRONZE: Fernando Verdasco to win opening set v Murray, 5/1 (betway)
