Last week I sat down to watch a movie with my Girlfriend and her family. Her father kindly informed me how good a movie it was and that at the end comes a twist that I will not expect. I spent the entire movie twisting everything so that in the end nothing could have come as a shock to me. I feel like this with the current Wimbledon tournament, Federer.Nadal, Ferrer, are all absent from the last four. Is there one last twist in the works?
Bookmakers think the stage is set for a Djokovic v Murray final with BETVICTOR going 1/3 that these two meet on the last Sunday of Wimbledon (on the court that is not just randomly bumping into each other). I think we could still have one more shock left in this tournament and I recommend the 9/4 (BETVICTOR) that these two do not meet in the final.
It is not unreasonable to expect a shock when Janowicz meets Murray. The Brit is clearly the superior player but odds of 2/9 (ladbrokes) on Murray and 9/2 (STAN JAMES) on the Pole do not look correct to me. This is the first semi-final Janowicz has reached and some think the occasion may get to him yet I am not convinced. The Pole has taken everything in his stride so far at this tournament and has dropped just two sets. These dropped sets came in a game against Jurgen Melzer which may be attributed to the fact it was played on an outer court that Janowicz never got comfortable with.
I think the best bet in this game is in taking Janowicz to win at least set at 5/6 (SKYBET). These two are tied one all in the head-to-head record with Murray winning a Davis Cup battle between the pair back in 2009 though Janowicz would have been just 19 then. Of more interest is the meeting between these two players in the World Masters Paris in 2012 which the Pole won. He is playing the best Tennis of his life and he has the power game to cause Murray numerous problems with his serve and groundstrokes.
One obvious bet that might appeal to some people is in taking Janowicz in the most aces market at 4/7 (paddy Power) as no player has hit more aces in the tournament than the Pole.
The other semi-final is between Novak DJokovic and Juan Martin Del Potro and bookmakers have again been too quick in their assesment that this match will be one sided. The Serbian is as short as 1/6 (sportingbet/paddy Power) which is probably because he is a former winner here and has a 8-3 lead in the head-to-head record. In addition Djokovic has not dropped a set this fortnight. Then again nor has Del Potro. The Argentine player knows he can beat the Serbian on Grass as he did so last year at the Olympics which was played at Wimbledon. Del Potro can also take heart from the fact he won the last meeting between the pair at Indian Wells in March.
The recommended bet is to take the Evens (william hill) on Del Potro win at least one set.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: NO in will it be a Murray v Djokovic final, 9/4 (BETVICTOR)
SILVER: Janowicz to win at least one set v Murray, 5/6 (SKYBET)
BRONZE: Del Potro win at least one set v Djokovic, Evens (william hill)
