After two successful tips in the Golf last week (Matt Kuchar and Mikko Illonen) let us hope we can hit the heights again as we recommended the best of the bets from the action on the tours this week.

Bookmakers have Phil Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker as the joint favourites (14/1-GENERAL) to win the St Jude Classic this weekend. The field is somewhat reduced as it comes a week ahead of the US Open and a few days removed from US Open qualifying. Mickelson as always commands respect and he arrives here fresh having taken a break since the Players Championship. Snedeker is another who comamnds respect as he is a Tennessee native. Outside the top two Dustin Johnson is a 20/1 (GENERAL) to retain the trophy that he won last year. The back though is proving a problem for Johnson and he has not completed a tournament since coming tied 13th at the Masters. Billy Horschel is a 33/1 (GENERAL) chance as is Fredrik Jacobsen, Russell Henley and Charles Howell III (GENERAL).

The first selection is Ryan Palmer at 25/1 (GENERAL) who tickes all the boxes. Palmer finished tied for third here last year and has three top 15 finish in his last six events.

It would be crazy not to have a little interest in course specialist John Merrick at 66/1 (GENERAL). Merrick has broken 70 in seven of his eight previous rounds at the venue and was only narrowly beaten to the trophy last year by Dustin Johnson. Those who want a player at even bigger prices might want to consider Brian Stuard at 250/1 (CORAL) as he was a comfortable winner of his US Open qualifier and has a couple of top ten finishes in Tennessee to his name on the Web.com Tour.

’It means nothing to me,oh Vienna.’

Now I am not sure Ultravox were talking about the Lyoness Open with this song though they could well have been. While the Lyoness Open may be one of the finest named events on the European Tour it is not one of the most interesting. Home hope and defending champion Bernd Wiesberger is the short priced 15/2 (888 SPORT) favourite. His form is excellent also with four top 12 finishes from his last five starts and he shot 64 and 66 in his last two rounds in the Nordea Open to come in third.

Pablo Larrazabal is a 14/1 (GENERAL) chance and is in good form with four top-six efforts in his last seven starts and seven top twenties in his last eight apearances. You would have to think a win must be around the corner for the Spaniard. Others expected to go well are Miguel Angel Jimenez at 20/1 (GENERAL), Thomas Bjorn who is also 20/1 (bet365) and Joost Luiten who is available at 25/1 (BWIN).

The recommended bet comes on Swede Rikard Kariberg who looks a good each-way chance at 40/1 (paddy Power/CORAL). Kariberg was tied for fourth in the Nordea Masters last weekend and topped the scrambling figures which are vital at this venue. The Swede came fourth at this venue last year and carries our hopes this time around.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Ryan Palmer EW in the St Jude Classic, 25/1 (GENERAL)
SILVER: Rikard Kariberg EW in the Lyoness Open, 40/1 (paddy Power/CORAL)
BRONZE: John Merrick EW in the St Jude Classic, 66/1 (GENERAL)
