Burnley take on West Bromwich Albion at noon tomorrow needing at least a point at home to escape the relegation zone. The Clarets found themselves in the drop zone following Saturday`s results, Hull City picking up an unlikely draw against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City. Burnley would go above West Brom with a win whilst also shunting the Tigers back into the bottom three.
The last time the two sides met was at the Hawthorns back in September, Albion hitting four past the North West club without reply. Saido Berahino grabbed a goal either side of the half time whistle in what was former manager Alan Irvine`s Baggies high point, with defender Michael Dawson providing the opener and Graham Dorrans tying up the points in injury time. New manager of the West Midlands club Tony Pulis will be hoping for a similar performance from his side at Turf Moor tomorrow.
The odds are against them, however, with Burnley currently installed as the 13/8 favourites to grab all three points. This price can be received from betfred. West Brom on the other hand are 21/10 for the win with Betvictor and Coral, a similar 4-0 victory for the Baggies being priced up at 125/1 with Betvictor and paddy Power. Nine-to-four is available at most bookmakers for those wanting to back a draw.
Burnley were unbeaten in four games at home in the Premier League before their 1-0 loss against Liverpool in the North West on Boxing Day. Since then Sean Dyche`s men have managed to pick up a win over fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers before losing to Crystal Palace despite bagging two goals.
All three goals in the six pointer against Rangers came in the first half with Scott Arfield providing the opener before Danny Ings had to restore his team`s lead following a successfully converted penalty from former teammate Charlie Austin.
Ings was again on the scoresheet at Turf Moor against Palace, doubling the Clarets` advantage in the first 20 minutes following Ben Mee`s early deadlock breaker. Despite going two goals to the good the Eagles fought back, eventually taking all three points back to London.
This was the fourth time in as many matches that Dyche`s men had managed to bag two or more goals in a Premier League game, the QPR encounter being preceded by away games against Manchester City (2-2) and Newcastle (3-3), though this streak came to an end with their 2-0 defeat away at Sunderland last time out. They are 9/5 with 32red, 888sport and unibet to grab over 1.5 goals tomorrow afternoon.
Having also scored in the Newcastle game and with seven goals to his name in all competitions, Danny Ings is 2/1 with a number of bookmakers to add to his tally against the Baggies.
Under Pulis West Brom have picked up three wins, two draws and a defeat, the latter coming in their last Premier League game at home to Tottenham, the match ending 3-0.
Indeed, two of these victories have also come in the FA Cup against Conference Gateshead (7-0) and Championship side Birmingham City (2-1) respectively and so have no bearing on league position. What is clear from these results, however, is his side`s increased focus on defending, in his six games in charge the club have only conceded five times, three of those goals coming in the Spurs game. As a result, Albion are 21/10 with a number of bookmakers to keep their fourth clean sheet under Pulis tomorrow and are 19/5 (Betvictor, Coral) to win to nil.
Berahino is considered the most likely goalscorer for the Baggies and is 11/2 (Numerous) to break the deadlock.
