Everton host Liverpool this evening as the two teams prepare to do battle in the second Merseyside Derby of the season. Whilst an away win for the Blues wouldn`t see them move instantly from their 12th position, it would be a foundation on which they could build any further progress from their less than salubrious mid-table standing. Liverpool, on the other hand, could move above Spurs and take sixth place, should they win and the Whites fail to in their North London Derby at the Emirates.

The last time the two teams met was at Anfield back in September, the bitter rivals playing out a 1-1 draw. It was a tale of two captains in that match, Steven Gerrard grabbing the opening goal 20 minutes after the restart before Phil Jagielka made sure the spoils were shared in injury time.

Despite being pegged back late on in that game, Liverpool are the bookies` favourites to bounce back with an away victory at Goodison Park. Last season`s Premier League runners-up can be backed at 13/10 with a number of bookmakers.

Coral have priced an Everton win up at 5/2, the same price that is available at Stan James for those wanting to back a second Merseyside draw. A correct score prediction of 1-1, a replica of the score the last time the two teams clashed, will return winnings at odds of 13/2 with Betvictor.

Roberto Martinez`s home side are unbeaten in three in the Premier League following consecutive draws with Manchester City (1-1) and West Brom (0-0) and an away win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Romelu Lukaku scored the only goal against Palace whilst Steven Naismith equalised for the Blues following Fernandinho`s opener for City.

Both the City and Albion matches took place at Goodison Park and have contributed to the six points Everton have earned in their last five home league games. Their only league win at home since the beginning of December came against the struggling QPR as Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas scored before Nedum Onuoha`s own-goal in their comprehensive 3-1 victory.

The other two results that make up this recent home form are the 1-0 defeat against Stoke and the 1-1 tie against Hull City in which Lukaku once again netted. Not only is Lukaku the club`s top scorer from this period, he is their top scorer of the season with 10 goals in all competitions. He can be backed at 7/1 with Betvictor, ladbrokes and paddy Power.

Everton have kept five clean sheets this season, with only three of these being at home. As a result, a Toffees win to nil is available at 5/1 (Betvictor, Coral, paddy Power) whilst Liverpool are 1/4 (betfred, boylesports, ladbrokes) to score over 0.5 goals. Two of these five Everton clean sheets, on the other hand, came in their last two games.

Brendan Rodgers` men are unbeaten in seven in the league and have taken 10 points from their last five games on the road. The club`s last away league defeat, which is also the Reds last loss in the league and the last time they failed to hit the back of the net, came on 14th December in a 3-0 loss to Manchester United.

Since then they have won without conceding against Burnley (1-0), Sunderland (1-0) and Aston Villa (2-0) and drawn 2-2 with bottom of the table side Leicester City. Including the United loss, these are Liverpool`s last five results on the road.

Steven Gerrard scored two penalties against Leicester and is his side`s top scorer from these encounters. paddy power have priced him up at 7/2 to get his name on the scoresheet once again.

A fourth win to nil from five on the road for the Reds can be backed at 16/1 with Betvictor and Coral.
