Premier League

Bookmakers are not resting in the quiet summer without Football and have priced up a number of new markets in the Premier League. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from these specials.

Michael Laudrup has been well supported in the next maanger to go market and is the 5/1 (STAN JAMES) favourite though is as short as 11/8 in some places. Although the Dane has come out and suggested he is not going anywhere it is clear that he is frustrated by the way the Welsh club are doing their transfer dealings this summer. With high profile jobs like PSG and Real Madrid still up for grabs it would not be a shock to see Laudrup gone within the next few weeks. As such this looks a market not to get involved in unless you were smart enough to side with Dane at a much bigger price.

SKYBET and BETVICTOR have both priced up teams to finish in the top ten and value can be had in this market. Outside the big seven (Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton) it is all to play for in the Premier League from 8th to 20th. The gap between West Brom in eighth and Sunderland in 18th was just ten points and any number of sides look capable of moving up or down. The first recommendation then is Aston Villa at 5/2 (SKYBET) as Paul Lambert has a young side that can only come on for their first season in the Premier League. Keeping Benteke would be vital though you have to think that most of the money raised from a sale would allow Lambert to strengthen his team. Villa lost just one of their last eight games against teams outside the top seven.

Norwich are as big as 5/1 (BETVICTOR) to finish in the top half. The Canaries finished 11th last season just two points from a top ten finish. No side outside the big seven had as strong a defence as the Canaries while if new signing Ricky Van Wolfswinkel hits the ground running then goals for should no longer be a problem for them. What makes these prices more value is that Swansea,West Brom and West Ham who all finished in the top ten all look vulnerable to dropping off while bookmakers look a lot more convinved about the chances of Newcastle than I am.

SPORTINGBET have already hit the ground with their prices on the PFA Player of the Year prices with the market headed by the winner last year, Gareth Bale at 9/4. Robin Van Persie is the second favourite at 5/1 while Chelsea duo Juan Mara and Eden Hazard are next at 10/1 and 12/1. This looks a market to avoid at the moment as so many new signings have yet to be confirmed while four of the big seven have new managers so it is unclear what role these players will play.

The third and final bet I like the look of is small stakes on the 50/1 on Ian Holloway winning the manager of the month award. Palace are widely expected to go straight back down so if Holloway can get them off to a decent start (like he did Blackpool in 2010/11) then this might get him some support. At small stakes this looks worth an interest.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Aston Villa to finish in the top ten, 5/2 (SKYBET)
SILVER: Norwich to finish in the top ten, 5/1 (BETVICTOR)
BRONZE: Ian Holloway to be August manager of the month, 50/1 (SKYBET)
