We start the weekly transfer round-up with a move that may have slipped under the radar of most people and that is the fact that Will Grigg left Walsall in League One. That in itself is not a shock after all he scored 19 goals in League One last season. The shock is that he has elected to stay in the same division and sign for Brentford. The Bees came incredibly close to promotion last season with only a couple of cruel penalties denying them. Throw in the firepower of Clayton Donaldson who grabbed 18 goals for Brentford last season and you have two of the top five scorers in the division last season playing for one team. betfred and TOTESPORT have them at 14/1 to win the League One title or 9/2 for promotion. This looks a great price and needs to be taken early.
The teams newly promoted to the Premier League have been busy in the transfer market with Cardiff signing Andreas Cornelius from Copenhagen for a figure reported to be around £7 million. The 20-year-old has been nicknamed ’The Danish Tank’ as as hes tands at six feet four. I have seen him a few times for Copenhagen and his linkup player is impressive. He could be ideal at the front of a 4-5-1 and if Cardiff complete a deal for Thomas Ince as rumoured they should have goals in the counter-attack in them.
Crystal Palace have also moved to sign Dwight Gayle as a striker for Peterborough. The player would be ideal to play off Glenn Murray but the promoted side still need a number of signings if they wish to survive more than one season.
Hull are expected to complete the signing of Charlie Austin this week which if they do is another good signing. Like Palace though they still have a lot of work to do to make up ground on Cardiff who finished comfortably ahead of them last season. The recommended bet then is to take the 10/11 (BETVICTOR) on Cardiff to be the top promoted team.
Friday saw Chelsea complete a big money deal for Marco Van Ginekl from Vitesse Arnhem. The 20-year-old international is considered a younger version of Frank Lampard and is a part of the Jose Mourinho rebuilding of the Chelsea team. Norwick keeper John Ruddy and strikers Edison Cavani and Robert Lewandowski are also among the rumoured targets. Chelsea are 12/5 (SKYBET/betway) joint second favourites for the title behind Man Utd at 9/4 (GENERAL) and alongside Man City (also 12/5 with CORAL). United have been quiet in the transfer market though did make the announcement this week that they had no intention of selling Wayne Rooney.
Another major transfer in the Premier League was Tottenham completing a deal for Brazilian midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians. The 24-year-old midfielder is an excellent addition and if Gareth Bale can be convinced to give it another season then Tottenham finally make the top four which they are 2/1 (bet365/BETVICTOR) to do so.
Wigan have had a busy week in the Championship bringing in keeper Scott Carson, midfielder James Perch and forward Marc-Antoine Fortune. The major move at time of writing was that they had agreed a fee for Grant Holt. Holt will still be a handful at this level. Take the 12/1 (GENERAL) on the Latics to bounce right back as champions.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Cardiff to finish as top promoted side, 10/11 (BETVICTOR)
SILVER: Brentford to win promotion, 9/2 (TOTESPORT/betfred) to win League 1, EW,14/1 (TOTESPORT/betfred)
BRONZE: Wigan to win Championship 12/1 (GENERAL), promotion 9/2 (sportingbet)
