A new name will be added to the roll call of victors at Wimbledon on Saturday when Sabine Lisicki takes on Marion Bartoli in the Ladies final on Saturday. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from this game.
It is not the names anyone expected to be taking to centre court at 2pm (BST) Saturday for the final of the Ladies tournament. It is 15th seed Marion Bartoli who will take on 23rd seed Sabine Liscki. Lisicki has never reached a Grand Slam Final before while Bartoli played here in 2007 but was outclassed by Venus Williams. Both players then will be gunning for their first major trophy victory.
In terms of battles between the two they have met four times previously with Lisicki leading the head-to-head record 3-1 including victory in each of the last three. The last meeting came at Wimbledon in 2011 in the quarter-finals with the German winning three sets. Bartoli though did win when these two met in 2008 which was also at Wimbledon.
Bookmakers make Liscki the 5/11 (888 SPORT/unibet) favourite for the match as she bids to be the first German winner of Wimbledon since 1996 when Steffi Graff won the last of her seven titles. The last French winner of the title was Amelie Mauresmo in 2006 and she will be in the box for Bartoli as she has been helping her out this fortnight. The Bartoli victory is priced at 2/1 (sportingbet/STAN JAMES).
Those who take my advice will all ready be on the 40/1 (boylesports) that was an offer on Bartoli at the start of the week though even the 2/1 is decent value. The French girl has looked impressive all week not dropping a set and was dominant in her semi-final with Flipkens losing just three games. Her route to the final has been easier than Lisicki which may count in her favour for having fresher legs for the match. Lisicki meanwhile was made to work before overcoming Radwanska 9-7 in her semi-final. This marked the third time in the last four rounds that the German has played three sets. Bartoli is fresher and looks huge value at this price to get something from the game. If you are backing Bartoli in the outrights then you should also consider backing her to win at least one set which you can do so at 8/11 (SKYBET/STAN JAMES).
Those wanting to back in the correct score market will see that Lisicki to win in straight sets is a 6/5 (CORAL) chance which has been the result in two of the last three meetings between the duo. A Lisicki victory in three sets occured when these two last met and the same again here is priced at 10/3 (ladbrokes). Bartoli has yet to drop a set throughout the tournament and for her to win 2-0 here is priced at 4/1 (GENERAL) while the French player to win in three sets is 5/1 (GENERAL). If you do not wish to specify a player then you can just take a bet on the game going two or three sets. For the game to go three sets you can get 13/8 (SKYBET) while four of the last six finals have just last two sets and for the same again you can get 6/11 (BWIN).
One last bet I like the look of is the 9/4 (paddy Power/ladbrokes) are offering on Sabine Lisicki not to win her first service game. This looks worth a small interest as the French player tends to come out firing and broke Flipkens early in the semi-finals.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Marion Bartoli to win at least one set, 8/11 (SKYBET/STAN JAMES)
SILVER: Marion Bartoli to win the final, 2/1 (sportingbet/STAN JAMES)
BRONZE: Lisicki to not win her first service game, 9/4 (paddy Power/ladbrokes)
