At the time of writing there are currently five vacant managerial positions in the top four tiers of English football. Whilst things are unusually quiet in the Premier League, aside from the cries of wounded Newcastle United fans calling for Alan Pardew`s head, two jobs are up for grabs in the Championship, two in League One and there`s one further available position in League 2. But which managers are in the running to throw themselves out of the frying pan and into the fire of a club cut adrift at the wrong end of the table? We decided to find out.

Fulham

The Craven Cottage outfit are still on the lookout for a replacement for eccentric German Felix Magath. The former Bayern Munich boss was sacked after seeing the club relegated from the Premier League before being unable to find the winning formula in the Championship. He took charge of his last league game on 17th September as the Cottagers relinquished a one goal lead to lose 5-3 away at Nottingham Forest.

Current caretaker manager Kit Symons is the 5/2 (Betvictor) second favourite to fulfil the position following his success in sealing two league wins to lift the side from the foot of the table. Former player and Watford manager for all of eight days, Billy Mckinley has been installed as the new 11/8 (Betvictor) favourite.

Bolton Wanderers

It`ll take a brave person to pick up the reins at the Championship`s bottom side Bolton Wanderers, with long-time manager Dougie Freedman resigning after nearly two years in charge. The Trotters could only pick up five points in the Glasweigan`s first ten league games of the 2014/15 season, prompting the ex-Crystal Palace man to cut ties with the Greater Manchester club.

Tony Mowbray has been without employment since leaving Middlesbrough last season, but is the 7/2 favourite to secure himself the job at the Macron Stadium. The Yorkshireman was responsible for getting West Bromwich Albion promoted to the Premier League back in 2007/08. Southend boss Phil Brown is 5/1 with betfair and Coral to get the call from chairman Phil Gartside. The 55 year old oversaw Hull City`s rise to the Premier League also in 2007/08.

Leyton Orient

The O`s have been without a manager since Russell Slade left the club to take them helm at Championship underachievers Cardiff City. Despite having marched the Londoners to the League 1 play-off final last season, Slade`s men have been suffering from a hangover seeing them one place above the drop zone with ten points from their first ten games.

Caretaker manager Kevin Nugent is the 1/3 (Betvictor) favourite to snatch the role from his competitors after claiming that he had already been offered the job, something he was currently `considering`. The Red Dragons sporting director Mauro Milanese denies this claim.

Port Vale

Long-time manager Mickey Adams left Port Vale after admitting that he had reached his `shelf life` at the club. Vale sit in 21st place in League 1 after collecting nine points from 11 games. Four of these points have been accumulated following the departure of Adams something that has seen caretaker boss Robert Page installed as the current 1/2 (Betvictor, Skybet) favourite for the role.

AFC Halifax manager Neil Aspin is the only other consideration in the eyes of the bookies with the titan of non-league the 4/1 (Betvictor, Skybet) to make the move to the Midlands.

Hartlepool United

League 2`s Hartlepool United hold the dubious honour of being the bottom club in the whole of the football league with former manager Colin Cooper calling it a day after his team lost 3-0 to fellow strugglers Carlisle United. The North East side have picked up two wins and two draws from their opening eleven fixtures.

Graham Kavanagh, who was relieved of his duties at Carlisle following a 5-0 pummelling away to Cambridge United, is the surprise 4/6 (Betvictor, Skybet) favourite for the position whilst experienced player Sam Collins (8/1 - Betvictor, Skybet) and out-of-work manager Brian Laws (16/1 - Betvictor) are also said to be in the running.
