Despite a disappointing result in the derby at Manchester City last week, Manchester United did not play poorly and the signs were there that they have started to make some progress in recent weeks under manager Louis van Gaal. However, the sending off of Chris Smalling destroyed the good work that the team had put in to the match up to that point and resulted in his team being put on the back foot from the start of the second half and ultimately losing the game. Manchester United did press for an equaliser towards the end of the match but it was difficult to tell if that was because of great play by Manchester United or nervousness from Manchester City. Nevertheless, Louis van Gaal`s team still come into the match against Crystal Palace as 1/3 favourites with paddypower and this is probably due to the fact the match is being played at their home ground of Old Trafford, where all three of Manchester United`s victories have come so far this season.

Crystal Palace come in to this match off the back of a poor result in their previous game, losing 3-1 at home to Sunderland. That result completed a run of four matches without a win and only one point gained, which was a 2-2 draw away to West Bromwich Albion. This form finds Crystal Palace down in 17th position in the Premier League and 10/1 with bet365 to leave Old Trafford with a win, something they have not managed since November 2011 in the League Cup. A further blow to Crystal Palace is the suspension of captain and joint top goal scorer Mile Jedinak, who was sent off in the previous match against Sunderland and misses his first match since Crystal Palace returned to the Premier League.

Frazier Campbell leads the goal scoring charts along with Jedinak, both having found the back of the net three times in the Premier League this season and is available at 12/1 with bet365 to score the first goal of the game and 9/2 with betfred to score at any time. With Manchester United so short on defensive options for this match, manager Neil Warnock will know that his team has a good chance of repeating what four out of the five visitors to Old Trafford have done this season and that`s score a goal.

Manchester United`s top goal scorers also have just three goals to their name but one of those players, Wayne Rooney has been missing through suspension and only returned last week against Manchester City. Looking much sharper than his forward partner Robin van Persie, Rooney is Manchester United`s best chance of getting a goal, especially with Radamel Falcao out through injury. Rooney is available at 17/4 with BetVictor to get the opening goal of the match.

Given the form that Crystal Palace are currently in and the fact that Manchester United have picked up the majority of their points up at home this season, it`s difficult to see the away team returning to London with anything but a defeat. Having said that, Manchester United are still struggling to keep teams out at Old Trafford and coupled with defensive injury concerns a Manchester United win with both teams to score, on offer at 2/1 with Coral, is a good bet. There have also been over 2.5 goals in five of Crystal Palace`s last six away games and in four out of the last five of Manchester United`s home games. bet365 offer 8/15 that over 2.5 goals will be scored at Old Trafford this weekend.
