Betvictor have installed Brit Andy Murray as the 5/2 favourite to take his first ATP competition of the year with the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam tomorrow. The 27-year-old last won the tournament back in 2009, seeing off Rafael Nadal in three sets to claim the trophy 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. This will be the Scots` first ATP tournament since losing out in the final of the Australian Open back in January.
Murray will begin his competition campaign against an as yet unspecified qualifier.
The second favourite for Rotterdam success is Stanislas Wawrinka, seeded fourth, Switzerland`s number two being available at 9/2 with ladbrokes.
The world number nine will take on Dutch outsider Jesse Huta Galung in the first round of the competition tomorrow, ladbrokes making the 2014 Australian Open champion the 1/20 favourite for his first ever clash against the man ranked only just in the top 250. Galung is available for backing at 12/1 with bet365, and 11/2 with william hill to just win a set. This match will take place at 14:30 tomorrow.
There are only two other top 10 ranked players in the competition, the first being 6/1 shout (Betvictor) for the title Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic, who can also be backed at this same price with ladbrokes and Skybet. The former is the world number seven and reigning ROtterdam champion whilst Raonic is ranked a place better in sixth.
Whilst, like the tournament favourite, second seed Raonic will also face off against another unspecified qualifier, Berdych must play Jerzy Janowicz in the competition`s first stage. This match-up is to take place on Tuesday 10th February at 9:00.
The two men have met three times in the past three years in ATP tournaments, 24-year-old Janowicz failing to get the better of the elder Berdych on any one occasion. As a result Berdych is the 2/9 favourite to secure a victory with Skybet, whilst a win for the Polish former Wimbledon semi-finalist can be taken at 18/5 with Betvictor.
Interestingly, Berdych has never beaten his opponent in straight sets, twice having to come from behind after losing the first set to take the honours. Consequentially there may well be value in the 19/10 being offered by william hill on the match lasting three sets. Twenty-four-to-five (also William Hill) says that the six foot five Czech player can bounce back to win the match following his defeat in the first set.
Three of the nine sets the two competitors have played have ended as tie-breaks, with two of these coming in the initial set. Coral are offering 12/5 on their being a first set tie-break in the match on Tuesday with the same bookmaker offering 3/10 on there not being one.
Furthermore, all of these sets that have needed to be decided by a 13th game were won by Janowicz. This will perhaps prove to be vital information should you be betting in play.
This tournament will kick off with Simone Bolelli of Italy taking on Czech player Lucas Rosol at 10:00 tomorrow morning. The 29-year-old Italian is the 4/7 favourite for the match with most bookmakers whilst Rosol is a 6/4 shout with betfair and Stan James.
Other interesting clashes set for Monday include the afternoon tie between Ernests Gulbis and Dominic Thiem at 13:00. Thiem was the winner in the two players` only previous clash at the US Open but is betfred`s 13/8 outsider. Gulbis can be backed at 8/15 with Coral.
David Goffin (8/13 - paddy Power) also takes on Gilles Muller (11/8 - betfred, Betvictor, Skybet) at 20:00.
