Back the Baggies to keep it close at the Bridge

Premier League

An early candidate for the last game on Match of the Day is the battle at Villa Park between Aston Villa and Cardiff. The Villans have have gone six hours and four minutes without a Premier League goal while the Bluebirds are not exactly prolific scorers themselves having netted just three times in their last four games.

Aston Villa have the second worst home record in the Premier League this season with just one win and four defeats from their five at Villa Park this season. Cardiff then might fancy their chances of getting something from the game especially as they have lost just one of their last four Premier League away games. The Bluebirds are 16/5 (GENERAL) for victory while the draw is priced at 5/2 (GENERAL).

Villa can take heart from the fact that they have played four of the top five so far at home this season and with all due respect to Cardiff this is probably the easiest home fixture they have had this season. The Midlands side can be backed at evens (GENERAL) to see off Cardiff. The best way to play this game is to oppose goals as we stated before the signs are in place that this will not be a high scoring encounter. The last four Villa games have seen a total of just four goals while the last two Cardiff games have seen just one goal. The under 2.5 goals can be backed at 20/23 (boylesports) while NO in the both teams to score at market is 11/10 (boylesports). Both bets looked good options though I prefer the 11/10 (BETVICTOR) are offering on the first goal in this coming after the 27th minute.

Chelsea take on West Brom at Stamford Bridge with the London side the strong favourites to win the game at odds of 3/10 (GENERAL) as they seek to continue a run of home form that has seen them win all five games in the Premier League this season having netted at least twice in each of these games.

The Baggies though have already won at Old Trafford this season so certainly will have a punching chance to get something from this game. The odds on them are a little generous side as they are 11/1 (GENERAL) for victory while the draw is 5/1 (GENERAL). The absence of Fernando Torres and the way the London side struggled to create chances at Newcastle last weekend makes me think West Brom can keep this one close. Back the Baggies then on the Asian Handicap with a 1.25 start. bet365 and paddy Power are offering 5/4 which will pay out if the Midlands side win or draw and a half win if they lose by just one goal.

Crystal Palace take on Everton at Selhurst Park as the Eagles are still without a manager and it is Wales boss Chris Coleman who was the main man in the frame at the time of writing. Palace will know that the wins, if they come at all, will likely come at home. They are 11/2 (GENERAL) to defeat an Everton side who have lost just one league game this season. Although they have tightened up since the departure of Ian Holloway goals are still painfully hard to come by for Palace who have scored just two times in their last seven league games. The Merseysiders are tight at the back having shipped just ten goals all season and the Toffees to win to nil will be popular at 9/5 (CORAL). Palace have been behind at half time in five of their last seven games so it might be worth a little interest on Everton in the half time/full time market at 13/5 (william hill).

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: West Brom +1.25 on Asian Handicap, 5/4 (bet365/paddy Power
SILVER: Everton HT/ Everton FT, 13/5 (william hill)
BRONZE: First goal to come after 27th min, Aston Villa v Cardiff, 11/10 (BOYLESPORTS)
