Hull will host Aston Villa in a basement battle tomorrow evening (19:45), fresh from the Tigers` draw against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City at the weekend.
Despite this result, the North East club still remain in one of the three relegation places, though are just a solitary point behind 17th placed Burnley with a superior goal difference. Hull also sit a mere two points behind Aston Villa and will move above Paul Lambert`s side with a win against them at the KC Stadium. A win for Villa, on the other hand, would see them potentially move into the mid-table position of 14th and put five points between themselves and their relegation-threatened opponents.
The last time the two sides met was back in the Premier League in August, Villa seeing off Steve Bruce`s men when the Tigers` visited Villa Park on the last day of the month. The Midlands club went two goals to the good in the opening half an hour with both Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann hitting the back of the net. Nikica Jelavic was on target for the visitors with 15 minutes of the game still to play but the Villans held on in their 2-1 victory.
Despite languishing in the drop zone, it is Hull who are the favourites to secure success at home tomorrow, Steve Bruce`s strugglers available at 13/10 with a number of bookmakers. Betvictor currently have the best price on a Villa triumph with 11/4 saying that Lambert will mastermind his club`s double over the hosts. A correct score prediction of 2-1 to Aston Villa will see returns received at a price of 14/1 (bet365). Meanwhile, a draw can be backed at 9/4 with a trio of turf accountants (bet365, betfred, Totesport).
Hull`s 1-1 draw against Manchester City last time out was the first time in four games that they had managed to bag a goal. David Meyler grabbed the opener on the 35th minute and his team looked good for the win until James Milner`s successful free-kick in injury time. The Irishman is 8/1 with Coral to hit the back of the net in successive games.
Nine goals had been scored past Allan McGregor and Steve Harper without reply prior to this tie, that`s the equivalent of just over two a game. Aston Villa are 9/2 (Betvictor, Totesport) to play out a win to nil against Hull and are 12/5 with Spreadex to keep a clean sheet. Three-to-one (32red, Coral, Spreadex, unibet) says Paul Lambert`s side can hit over 1.5 goals past the home side tomorrow.
The reason for this rather large price is the fact that the Villans have failed to net in any of their last four matches away from home. Indeed, prior to their 2-1 loss against Chelsea at the weekend, Lambert`s men had not hit the back of the onion bag in their last six Premier League fixtures.
A goal from Jores Okore ended this streak and the central defender is available at a price of 28/1 to score at any time in back-to-back games. With the profligacy of both teams taken into account, these two sides are the lowest scorers in the top tier this season, maybe it would be wise to bet on the game ending a goalless draw. Such an outcome can be picked up at 7/1 with Coral.
Villa have played out four goalless draws this season whilst Hull have been involved in such ties twice. Steve Bruce will hope that new signing Dame N`Doye will score his first ever goal in what is hoped will be a successful period with the club. He is 13/2 (betfred, Betvictor, Coral, Totesport) to open the scoring.
