Queens Park Rangers travel to Sunderland`s Stadium of Light tomorrow evening (19:45) in the hope of recording a win that would see a boost to their chances of staying in the Premier League. The Hoops, currently without a manager after the resignation of Harry Redknapp, are two points off Burnley who occupy the last position of safety with a inferior goal difference. A win for the Rs, however, would see them move up to 16th place.
Sunderland are themselves looking to move further away from the drop zone, Gus Poyet`s side in 14th place but merely four points from Hull in 18th. A victory for the Tyneside club against Rangers would see them move above Crystal Palace and level on points with European hopefuls Everton in 12th.
The last time the two teams met was back in August, Rangers playing out a 1-0 victory over the Black Cats at Loftus Road. Charlie Austin scored the only goal in a result that gave QPR their first win of the season. In a similar set of circumstances, the London club are still looking to collect their first Premier League points on the road.
As a result of this, it is Sunderland who are the favourites to pick up all three points and see the Hoops leave empty-handed. Poyet`s side can be backed at 19/20 (betfred, Bwin, Coral, Totesport, william hill). Both bet365 and boylesports are offering odds of 13/5 on the match ending a draw whilst Rangers are 18/5 with Betvictor to do the double over the Tyneside club tomorrow. Twenty-one-to-two with the same bookmaker is the price on QPR playing out another 1-0 win over their opponents.
The chances of such a triumph, however, seem slim, the Rs having failed to pick up a win in any of their last eight clashes. Similarly, all of their last five games have ended in defeat for last season`s Championship play-off winners, this string of results including an unlikely FA Cup loss at the hands of League One Sheffield United. Of these five games, QPR have scored only two goals, the first a penalty converted by Charlie Austin in their 2-1 defeat against fellow strugglers Burnley, the second a Niko Kranjcar effort on the last day of February in a 3-1 loss away at Stoke City.
Now under the caretaker management of Chris Ramsey, the team are 31/10 to scored over 1.5 goals at the Stadium of Light. This price can be found at 888sport and unibet. Kranjcar can be backed at a price of 13/2 (32red, 888sport, unibet) to hit the back of the net at any time once again. Austin is set to miss the Black Cats clash after sustaining an injury to his foot.
They face a Sunderland side who have a less than impressive record at home, having picked up only two Premier League wins there since the start of the season. The first came in a 3-1 win against Stoke back in October whilst Poyet`s men also saw off Burnley by 2-0 at the end of January.
Connor Wickham broke the deadlock against Stoke in the fourth minute of game time before Steven Fletcher scored in either half to seal his brace. The only Potters goal came through Charlie Adam in the 15th minute.
Wickham again opened the scoring in their encounter with Burnley, new signing Jermain Defoe doubling the advantage in the first half with his first goal for the club.
Twenty-one-year-old former Ipswich star Wickham is a 11/2 (betfred, Betvictor, boylesports, Totesport) shout to open the scoring once again whilst it`s 3/1 with betway should you think the game will have a two goal margin.
