In the third part of our Premier League guide to the action on Boxing Day we look at the games from Goodison Park, St James’ Park, Carrow Road and White Hart Lane.
Everton are 2/5 (GENERAL) to continue their great start to their season with a victory over Sunderland. The Toffees are going well this season and have real hopes of qualifying for the Champions League under Roberto Martinez. It is just one defeat this season for the Merseysiders and that came at the Eithad where everybody is losing.
Those who think the Black Cats can get something from this game after no wins from their last six can back them for one point at 19/5 (GENERAL) or three points at 9/1 (bet365).
I like the look of Bardsley to score the first goal at a remarkable 100/1 (BWIN) and 33/1 with the same firm to score at anytime. the sunderland full-back has three goals from his last nine games and as such has to be worth an interest at these prices to get a goal here.
After slow starts things seem to be looking up for Newcastle and Stoke and these two sides do battle in the North East on Boxing Day with the Magpies the 4/5 (GENERAL) favourites. The North East side have won three of the last four meetings between the pair and have lost just one of their ten home games in all competitions this season.
Those who think Stoke can get three points can back them to do so at 21/5 (BETVICTOR) though if the Potters have no Premier League away win since August 31st. In truth though this looks a tough game to call from a betting point of view and I will skip it.
Norwich take on Fulham at Carrow Road and this is a game that both sides will have marked as a game that they can win. The Canaries are the 11/10 (GENERAL) favourites as they look to build on a run of two wins, two draws and just one loss (to Liverpool) from their last five games. Fulham have lost their last two to Everton and Man City though have shown signs of life and can be backed at 57/20 (WINNER) while the draw is 5/2 (GENERAL). Norwich defender Sebastien Bassong had quite a few chances against Sunderland and with Fulham having looked vulnerable at the back to set-pieces try the 33/1 (GENERAL) on him to score first and 12/1 (GENERAL) he nets at anytime.
The battle at White Hart Lane is that of the caretaker managers as Tim Sherwood leads Tottenham in to battle against West Brom who have Keith Downing in charge. Bookmakers make Spurs the 11/20 (BETVICTOR/ladbrokes/YOU WIN) favourites and despite a victory at Southampton on Sunday and no defeat in the last seven meetings between the pair I can not be taking the North London side at these prices. West Brom are 6/1 (bet365) for victory as they look for their first success in their last seven games. The Baggies do tend to raise their game for the bigger teams with draws at Stamford Bridge and Goodison Park and a win at Old Trafford this season. If you think this game can end all square then the draw is on offer at 10/3 (bet365/CORAL).
The bet though could be over 3.5 goals as Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood seems intent on filling his side with attacking talent which has an affect at both ends. The game, like the Southampton one before, could have goals so take a chance at 2/1 (william hill).
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Phil Bardsley to score first v Everton, 100/1 (BWIN) or anytime 33/1 (BWIN)
SILVER: Seb Bassong to net v Fulham, first 33/1 (GENERAL), anytime 12/1 (GENERAL)
BRONZE: Over 3.5 goals between Tottenham and West Brom, 2/1 (william hill)
