The Premier League double-header this Sunday gets underway (13:30) from St Mary’s Stadium where ninth placed Southampton play host to seventh placed Tottenham.
Bookmaker make the Saints the 8/5 (GENERAL) favourites for the game as they look to put behind them a run of five matches without a victory in the Premier League. Southampton can take comfort from the problems surrounding Spurs who sacked their manager Villas-Boas last weekend and have won just two of their last seven league games.
Tottenham will take heart from the fact they won both meetings with the Saints last season and away from home they have produced some of their better performances with the only defeats coming away to Man City and Arsenal this season. If you fancy the North London side for victory then take the 2/1 (GENERAL) while the draw is a 23/10 (GENERAL) chance.
Tim Sherwood played 4-4-2 for Tottenham in midweek and if he does the same again it could mean another start for Emmanuel Adebayor who is 15/2 (WINNER) to score the first goal or 11/4 (888 SPORT/BWIN/unibet) to net at anytime. Jermain Defoe meanwhile has three in his last four against Southampton and is 13/2 (GENERAL) to score first and 7/3 (888 SPORT/unibet) to score anytime. For the Saints Jay Rodriguez has netted three goals in his last four games and he is 7/1 (GENERAL) to grab the opening goal and 5/2 (BWIN) to score at anytime while Rickie Lambert is 9/4 (bet365) to get among the goals.
The best bet in this game looks the YES in the both teams to score market at odds of 10/11 (CORAL). This bet would have paid out in six of their last seven Southampton games and five of the last six Tottenham games.
The second part of the double-header comes from the Liberty Stadium where Everton (who were fifth going into the weekend) take on Swansea (who were tenth).
Bookmakers make Everton the 6/4 (GENERAL) favourites as they are undefeated in their last nine Premier League matches including draws with Arsenal and Liverpool and victories over Man United and then last weekend a 4-1 hammering of Fulham. The head-to-head record also favours the Toffees as the Swans have failed to score in their last four Premier League meetings with Everton, losing three of these. Swansea played well in spells at Carrow Road last weekend though seem to tire in the Second Half and would have been happy enough with the point. The Welsh side are undefeated in their last five Premier League home matches and with no Europa League for a while will look to get some more points on board in the Premier League. The Swans are 39/19 (888 SPORT/unibet) for victory while the draw is a 12/5 (GENERAL) chance. Romelu Lukaku is the top scorer for Everton this season with eight goals and the Belgian is 11/2 (GENERAL) to grab the opening goal here and 7/4 (BETVICTOR) to net at anytime.
A better bet at bigger prices might be a little interest in Seamus Coleman at odds of 29/1 (YOU WIN) to score first and 11/1 (bet365) to score at anytime. The Everton fullback has two goals in the last four games and is given licence to get forward under Roberto Martinez. The Welsh side have been struggling for goals this season and fitness doubts over Michu will not help. Wilfried Bony might start if the Spaniard is missing and he is 17/2 (WINNER) to score the opener and 3/1 with the same firm to score at anytime.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: YES in both teams to score market Southampton v Tottenham, 10/11 (CORAL)
SILVER: Seamus Coleman to score anytime v Swansea, 11/1 (bet365)
BRONZE: Seamus Coleman to score first v Swansea, 29/1 (YOU WIN)
