Toffees to continue sticky period for Stoke

Premier League

The BT SPORT cameras will be at St Mary’s at 3pm for the game between Southampton and Chelsea. The Saints had a great start to the season but injuries have caught up to them a little and they have won just one of their last eight. The return of Morgan Schneiderlin will be a welcome one and I think the Saints can get something from this game so I will be taking them at 13/15 (BWIN) along with the draw in the double chance market. Chelsea have had a good festive period with wins at home to Swansea and Liverpool and a draw at Arsenal. Away from home the Blues still look a little vulnerable and have lost four of their last seven in all competitions. Southampton side held Man City to a draw here a few weeks ago and are capable of taking at least a point against Chelsea.

Eight goals conceded from the last two game means it has not been a festive time for Stoke and things could get worse before they get better as Everton are the visitors on Wednesday. The Toffees have lost just one away game all season and that came against Man City. Odds of 11/10 (BETVICTOR/paddy Power) must be taken even if Stoke tend to do their best work at home. Just one loss this season for the Potters is impressive though two tough road fixtures and a small squad means that this could be a game too far for Mark Hughes men.

Sunderland take on Aston Villa with the Black Cats likely to be boosted by rescuing a point at Cardiff with a goal deep into injury time. Gus Poyet will know his side must start picking up points, especially in home games against teams round about them in the relegation battle. This represents a perfect opportunity against an out of sorts Villa and 6/5 (paddy Power) will appeal to some. Not too me though as I am worried about the lack of goal threat the Black Cats possess, though the same can also be said about Villa. This then looks a game to keep a watching brief on from a betting point of view.

The Baggies have been solid if unspectacular under the caretaker reign of Keith Downing with three draws from three matches and you can get 12/5 (GENERAL) that their game with Newcastle at the Hawthorns ends all square. The Magpies will take heart from the way they played in a narrow defeat to Arsenal and a run of form that has seen them lose just two of their last ten in the Premier League. Newcastle can be backed at 2/1 (william hill) or 11/10 (GENERAL) in the draw no bet market and this looks the way to play it.

The third live game of the day comes from Old Trafford (17:30, BT SPORT) and sees Man United take on Tottenham in a battle between two sides chasing the Champions League slots. The game between these two ended 2-2 in December and the draw might be an option again at odds of 14/5 (GENERAL) while Spurs are 19/5 (william hill) to be the fourth Premier League side to take all three points from a visit to Old Trafford. United will be full of confidence after winning four straight and are 5/6 (BETVICTOR/paddy Power).

Both sides are still having problems at the back so over 2.5 goals is an option at 8/11 (32 RED) while Danny Welbeck has four goals in his last five and is 9/5 (SPREADEX) to net.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Everton to defeat Stoke, 11/10 (BETVICTOR/paddy power)
SILVER: Newcastle, draw no bet v West Brom, 11/10 (GENERAL)
BRONZE: Southampton/draw double chance v Chelsea,
