League leaders Chelsea will look to further consolidate their position at the head of the Premier League table tomorrow as they take on Everton at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues currently have a seven point gap over second placed Manchester City but could extend this deficit to ten points should the reigning champions fail to beat Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium. The Potters will be looking to do the double over Manuel Pellegrini`s men.
Everton currently sit in 12th position, a full 17 points off the Champions League places that they enjoyed fighting for last season. A win would potentially see them go just one point behind 11th placed Newcastle whilst a loss could see them fall further into the relegation quagmire. Roberto Martinez`s men are only seven points clear of the dreaded drop zone. They do, however, have a vastly superior goal difference to all of their lower half rivals.
The last time the two sides met back in August, Chelsea ran out the emphatic winners in a 6-3 victory at Goodison Park. Diego Costa got the game underway by bagging his first goal in the opening minute, he would later seal his brace in injury time. Branislav Ivanovic doubled the Blues` lead in the third minute before Kevin Mirallas halved the deficit on the stroke of half time.
A Seamus Coleman own-goal saw Jose Mourinho`s men go 3-1 to the good, Steven Naismith again hitting back less than a couple of minutes later to make the score 3-2. Nemanja Matic put Chelsea 4-2 up in the 74th minute before Samuel Eto`o`s strike, again less than a couple minutes later, once again put Everton back in it. The Merseyside club were eventually sunk by a goal from Ramires and Costa`s second.
The Toffees drawn out sticky spell means that the home side are the 10/20 favourites with 888sports and unibet for the 19:45 kick-off. A similar 6-3 win for the Londoners can be backed at 250/1 with Coral. Meanwhile, most bookmakers are offering 9/2 on a draw whilst a win for Everton can be found at 10/1 across the board.
Such a big price on an away victory is mainly down to the league leaders` unbeaten record at home in the competition. The only time the Stamford Bridge faithful have had to witness a defeat was when League One side Bradford City came to town in the FA Cup, causing a 4-2 upset back in January.
What`s more, Mourinho`s men have kept four clean sheets in their last five at home in the league, only conceding a goal last time at home when Manchester City came to visit. Loic Remy grabbed the opener for the Blues prior to David Silva equalising just before the restart.
Prior to this the club had seen off Tottenham 3-0, Hull 2-0, West Ham 2-0 and Newcastle 2-0 and are 21/20 with a trio of bookmakers (Betvictor, boylesports, Totesport) to win to nil tomorrow evening.
Spaniard Diego Costa is the club`s top scorer from these games having netted three times. Unfortunately the Premier League`s top scorer so far is still out with a three match ban and will not be able to play against Everton.
The second highest scorer from these five games is Eden Hazard who scored twice. The attacking midfielder is 11/2 (bet365, Betvictor, paddy Power) to break the deadlock.
Everton have only won one of their last five away encounters in the Premier League, though that was their last match out on the road against Crystal Palace. Indeed, the Toffees are currently unbeaten in six in all competitions having racked up five draws and this one win since New Year`s Day.
Five-to-four (betfair, Betvictor) says both teams will score.
