In our first of a two part guide to the new NFL season we look at the AFC Conference.

AFC EAST

Despite some off-field issues and the youngest receiving corp in numerous years Bill Belichick and Tom Brady will still find a way to make this New England side competitive. A slow start might see them out of the running for the first seed though they should have no problem landing their division. Miami are 5/1 (YOU WIN/betway) and expected to provide the closest challenge and a lot will depend on how second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill develops this season. The Bills will hope rookie quarterback EJ Manuel can hit the ground running and in CJ Spiller they have a star. The Jets meanwhile are side going backwards under Rex Ryan.

AFC NORTH

The division looks like being a tight battle between Cincinnati (2/1-SKYBET/boylesports/YOU WIN), Pittsburgh 2/1 (GENERAL) and Baltimore (29/10-888 SPORT/unibet). The Bengals could thrive if Andy Dalton makes the step up from good quarterback to great quarterback while AJ Green is likely to continue as one of the elite receivers. The Steelers top six defense will need help from a 23rd ranked offense if they are too land the divisional title and of course Ben Roethlisberger must stay healthy. You write off Baltimore at your peril and although the loss of Ray Lewis, Anquan Boldon and Ed Reed leaves holes the Ravens still have Joe Flacco, Ray Rice and that winning mentality. The Browns are the 11/1 (paddy Power) outsiders to win this division as they look to improve on a 5-11 record. Cleveland have an unkind schedule with five of eight road games against sides that made the playoffs last season.

AFC SOUTH

The Texans were undone last season by a string of bad injuries and if they stay healthy then Houton should win the divison at 8/15 (SKYBET/CORAL) and push for top seed. The Colts under the guidance of Nick Luck should get better and although they might find the Texans too good they look value at 4/1 (bet365/YOU WIN) to finish in the playoff Wild Card slots. Chris Johnson and Shonn Greene are nice 1-2 punch for the Titans though that might not matter if Jake Locker does not develop as quarterback. Javksonville meanwhile will be happy just to double their win total from last season of two.

AFC WEST

The Broncos are 3/10 (888 SPORT/unibet) and they should have no problems even with the early absence of Von Miller to win the divison title. The Chiefs should improve with Andy Reid as head coach and Alex Smith as quarterback. The Chargers could start well but a lack of depth to the squad could hurt them while the Raiders figure to be among the sides battling for the number one draft pick.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Denver Broncos to finish as Top Seed, 12/5 (bet365)
SILVER: Houston Texans to finish as Top Seed, 5/1 (bet365/YOU WIN)
BRONZE: Indianapolis Colts to finish Playoff Wild Card, 4/1 (bet365/YOU WIN)
