The League One action gets underway on Saturday lunchtime with a live game between the side in sixth (MK Dons) and the side in tenth (Swindon) (SKY, 12:15pm).
Bookmakers make MK Dons the marginal favourites for the game at 7/5 (BETVICTOR) as they look to build on a start to the season that has seen them go unbeaten in their last five games. At home they have lost just one of their last ten in all games including friendlies. They also have a good recent record against Swindon winning four of the last five between the pair.
Swindon have a mixed start to the season winning two, drawing one and losing two. Away from home has been the problem with both these defeats coming on their travels. This made it seven games in the division without an away though they can take comfort from an away win at QPR in the League Cup and a five goal performance at home to Crewe last weekend. If you fancy the Robins to take all three points it is 12/5 (GENERAL) as is the draw (GENERAL). The game looks a tricky one to call and so I will instead look to the anytime scorer market where Ryan Mason must be value at 10/3 (SPREADEX) to net. The Tottenham loanee grabbed a hat-trick against Crewe last weekend and will be full of confidence.
The best bet in the division could be in taking lowly Carlisle to finally get their first win of the league season. The Cumbrians have taken some hammerings in the division this season but they have shown signs of recovery in recent weeks. They picked up a couple of decent away draws at Colchester and Brentford and this is a game that manager Greg Abbott has marked as ’absolutely vital’. I think they can grab all three points here against a Port Vales side who have lost both of their away games so far this season going down to Colchester and Oldham. Vale manager Micky Adams suggested after the Wolves game that his players could struggle this season and he could be proved right here.
Peterborough disappointed last week when they did not come out of the blocks against Crawley and I think they can put that blip behind them when they face Crewe this weekend.
Posh have seen off a number of sides by big margins with four of their six wins this season coming by two or more goals. You can Peterborough to win the game at 10/11 (ladbrokes) or enhance this to 39/29 (BETVICTOR) -1.0 on the Asian Handicap. This means you will get the money back if they win by just one goal and the bet is a winner if they win by two or more goals. Such is the firepower at their disposal and their opponents have conceded 16 goals in seven games this season including five against Swindon last weekend.
The final bet comes in the Coventry v Colchester game which should see goals as the Sky Blues have produced a remarkable 28 in their five league games so far, netting 16 of them and conceding 12. Colchester have a side blessed with some talented forwards and against a Coventry side who have conceded two or more in four of their six games this season then odds of 11/4 (CORAL) on the away side to score over 1.5 goals looks generous.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Carlisle to beat Port Vale, 15/8 (bet365)
SILVER: Peterborough -1.0 on Asian Handicap, 39/29 (BETVICTOR)
BRONZE: Colchester to score over 1.5 goals v Coventry, 11/4 (CORAL)
