Premier League preview and odds: Sunderland vs Everton

September 12 , 2016 20:00pm - Stadium of Light

Premier League

Sunderland will go in search of their first Premier League win of the season when they take on flying-starters Everton at the Stadium of Light on Monday night.

Another tough season ahead for the Black Cats

Having scrapped their way to survival last season under the guidance of former boss and current England incumbent Sam Allardyce, Sunderland fans may have been hoping for more stability this term under new coach David Moyes. The early signs, however, point to more of the same for the northeast club.

The Mackems started their season with back-to-back 2-1 defeats away to Manchester City and at home to Middlesbrough before finally picking up a point with a draw at Southampton.

Their performances have perhaps been overly cautious with Moyes seemingly more concerned with trying to avoid defeat than pushing for the win - a trait that probably cost him his last two jobs at Real Sociedad and Manchester United. He will now have a chance to get one over on the club where he enjoyed his best spell as a coach when Everton make the journey to Wearside on Monday night.

In stark contrast to Sunderland, Everton have started brightly and are currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League table with a total of seven points. Ronald Koeman`s men started the season with a 1-1 draw against last season`s third place side Tottenham Hotspur before engineering back-to-back wins against West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City.

While it is too early to start predicting finishing position, the early signs are good for the team from Liverpool. The fact that their new boss led Southampton to a top six finish last season will give the fans further reason to be optimistic about the journey ahead.

Team news

The home side will be without the injured quartet of Fabio Borini, Vito Mannone, Sebastian Larsson and Lee Cattermole.

Meanwhile, the visitors will continue without James McCarthy, Muhamed Besic, Matthew Pennington and Tyias Browning.

Betting odds and tips

Sunderland will need to be more positive in the game if they are to grab their first win of the season. Unfortunately, David Moyes has proven to be rather inflexible in his approach throughout his career and will set out to avoid defeat.
