The Football League Trophy reaches the area quarter-finals on Tuesday night (12th) and here is our guide to the best of the bets from these games. A quick note as teams are allowed to rest a number of players be sure to keep your stakes lower than you would on normal league bets.
Seven games take place on Tuesday night and one live game on Wednesday night. The live match is between Fleetwood and Carlisle (SKY SPORTS, 19:45). Fleetwood are currently top of League Two and have won each of their last three in all competitions and can be backed at 5/4 (GENERAL) for victory here.
Carlisle are a league above Fleetwood though bookmakers have them at 9/4 (BETVICTOR) to win here. The Cumbrians are on a bit of a bad run at the moment with no win from their last four games though they have drawn their last two and this game to finish all square in 90 minutes is available at 13/5 (betway).
The anytime goalscorer market could be the way to play this game and I like the look of Carlisle player Liam noble. The Carlisle midfielder has grabbed two goals in his last four games and is a generous 6/1 (betfred to net at anytime here.
The best bet from the eight games comes in the earliest game on Tuesday which gets underway 7pm so be sure to get your bets on in time. It is the game between Hartlepool and Rotherham which sees an in-form League Two side up against the out of form League One side and as such has great potential for the upset. Hartlepool have now won six of their last eight home games in all competitions including each of their last four and they can be backed at 21/10 (boylesports) for the victory in 90 minutes. The Millers have won just one of their last six games and they offer no appeal at 11/8 (paddy Power) while the draw is available at 5/2 (bet365). I will recommend a little play then on Hartlepool in the draw no bet market at odds of 23/20 (boylesports/BETVICTOR/william hill).
I would also not put anyone off a bet on Luke James if he is selected. The Hartlepool front man has seven goals in his last eight games including a brace last time out in the FA Cup and he is available at a generous 5/2 (TOTESPORT/betfred) to net at anytime here against a Rotherham side who have kept a clean sheet in just one of their last six games.
Also in the Northern section Chesterfield take on Rochdale in a battle between the sides in third and fourth in League Two. The Spireites are evens (GENERAL) as they will look to build on an FA Cup victory over Daventry at the weekend which marked their first victory in six games. Rochdale are dangerous away opponents and have won three of their last four on their travels and can be backed at 3/1 (BOYLESPORTS) to win this game in 90 minutes. I like the look of Dale at 7/4 (BOYLESPORTS/paddy Power) in the draw no bet market. Bearing in mind the relative league positions of the two sides and the form of both teams then this looks a bet worth taking at these prices.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Hartlepool draw no bet v Rotherham, 23/20 (BOYLESPORTS/BETVICTOR/william hill)
SILVER: Rochdale draw no bet v Chesterfield, 7/4 (BOYLESPORTS/paddy Power)
BRONZE: Liam noble to score anytime v Fleetwood, 6/1 (betfred)
