It`s the Alan Pardew Derby tonight as the Pardew-led Crystal Palace host his former club Newcastle United tonight at 20:00. The Eagles could close the gap on the Magpies to two points with a win at home whilst also pulling themselves nine clear of the relegation zone. A loss could see them lose their 13th position to West Bromwich Albion, should they beat Swansea at the Hawthorns, though Tony Pulis` men would need a four goal swing to have the better goal difference.

An away win for Newcastle could see the side go to as high as ninth, again depending on the Albion/ Swansea result with the Swans currently occupying the ninth position. A defeat on the road wouldn`t see them fall through the league though Everton would have the opportunity to move to within a point of the 11th placed Tyneside club with an away win at Chelsea`s Stamford Bridge.

Palace and Newcastle have met twice already this season, first of all in their league clash at St James` Park, the second in the League Cup third round at Selhurst Park. The earlier fixture ended as a 3-3 draw whilst Newcastle ran out the winner away from home in September in the cup, beating the London side 3-2.

Dwight Gayle put the visitors up in the first minute of Newcastle and Palace`s league tie. The first 45 ended level, however, as Daryl Janmaat equalised eight minutes from the referee`s half time whistle.

Jason Puncheon`s goal three minutes after the restart put the Selhurst Park outfit back in front though Newcastle levelled up again through Rolando Aarons. Mike Williamson put the home side 3-2 to the good with two minutes to go though Wilfried Zaha netted to see the spoils shared in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Gayle once again opened the scoring for the Eagles in the League Cup thanks to a 25th minute penalty though the sides` once again entered the dressing rooms at the break level thanks to a goal from Newcastle`s Emmanuel Riviere. A second penalty, this time awarded to the away team, three minutes after the restart saw Riviere complete his brace before substitute Sullay Kaikai bagged a goal in the dying embers of the game to send the match into additional time.

Mehdi Abdi was sent off for Pardew`s Newcastle in the first half of this period though the ten men managed to find the winner through defender Paul Dummett.

Having provided the opener on both of these previous occasions, Dwight Gayle is 7/1 with Betvictor and Coral to break the deadlock this evening. Eight-to-one with betway says the match will be 1-1 at half-time for the third consecutive time between the two sides this season whilst it`s 22/1 (32red, 888sport, unibet) should you think that there will be over 5.5 goals scored in the match once again.

Despite having to failed to pick up the win in these earlier encounters, Pardew`s Palace are 7/5 with betfred, Betvictor and Totesport to grab all three points tomorrow. Newcastle, now under the stewardship of Pardew`s former assistant John Carver, are available at 12/5 with a number of bookmakers whilst a 3-2 to the Magpies can be scooped at 55/1 with Betvictor. Whilst a draw can be picked up at 23/10 across the board, a second 3-3 draw is 100/1 (betfred, Betvictor, Stan James).

Palace have only lost one game, a 1-0 defeat against Everton, since the employment of their new boss. They have scored 13 goals and conceded seven in his six matches in charge. Carver has been in charge of Newcastle in some form or other since the beginning of the year. Since this move, the club have picked up five points from five Premier League matches.
