It might not feature the showdown between Mo Farrah and Usain Bolt but it does promise to be a good nine days of action when the World Championships take place from Moscow. It gets underway Saturday (10th) and here is our guide to the best of the bets.

Mo Farrah is in action Saturday in the 10,000m and is the the 3/10 (paddy Power/188 BET) favourite for the Gold. The challenge is likely to come for Ethiopian duo Dejen Gebremeskel (13/2-BETVICTOR/888 SPORT/unibet) and Abera Kuma (25/1-sportingbet/william hill). Farah should win but the price does not appeal.

Usain Bolt is the star attraction in day two and is the unbackable 1/7 (sportingbet/ladbrokes) favourite for the 100m. Bolt should see off Gatlin in a 1-2 with the race wide open for third.. James Dasaolu is one of those with real hopes of a podium finish and the Brit is 4/1 (888 SPORT/unibet) for a podium finish. While in the Long Jump Shara Proctor is ranked fifth in the world and is 7/4 (888 SPORT/unibet) to grab a medal of any colour and she stands an excellent chance after a good year on the circuit.

Christine Ohuruogu is in action on day three and the Olympic Silver medalist is our best bet of all as she looks an excellent value at 3/1 (GENERAL) for victory in the 400m. She has already beaten favourite and world number one Amantle Montsho this year and is the value.

Kirani James is as short as 2/5 (GENERAL) for victory in the 400 metres on day four while Ethiopia’s Mohammed Aman is the evens (boylesports) favourite for the 800m. It Promises to be a strong day of Athletics ahead of the rest on day five which means no evening session. Other highlights for the evening are the conclusion of the Discus and the Heptathlon.

Both 400m Hurdle finals take place on day six with Dai Greene and Perri Shakes-Drayton carrying medal hopes, as do Hannah England (15000m) and Robbie Grabarz (High Jump). The bet I like the look of is in the 400m Hurdles for males where current world number one Javier Culson is a generous 4/1 (paddy Power/CORAL) for Gold and that must be taken,

Day seven sees Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford in action. Farah is 8/15 (william hill) for 5,000 Gold and Rutherford 16/1 (GENERAL) for Long Jump Gold. Alyson Felix meanwhile is the 7/4 (STAN JAMES) favourite to land Gold in the Women’s 200 metres.

Usain Bolt should have no problems in the 200 metres where he is an unbackable 1/12 (william hill) for victory with Warren Weir expected to be his nearest challenger. Tiffany Porter is ranked fourth in the world rankings for 100m Hurdles yet the Brit is a a generous 9/4 (888 SPORT/unibet) for a medal and that must be taken.

In an inspired piece of scheduling the 4x100 relays will end the championship and the Golds will be fought out between the sprint kings and queens of the USA and Jamaica. In the 1500 metres Kenyan Asbel Kiprop will be looking to defend his title.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Christine Ohuruogu to win the Women’s 400 Metres, 3/1 (GENERAL)
SILVER: Javier Culson Men’s 400 Metres Hurdles, 4/1 (paddy power/CORAL)
BRONZE: Tiffany Porter to get a medal in the 100 Hurdles, 9/4 (888 SPORT/UNIBET)
