The Ryder Cup may be getting a lot of attention with the event only two weeks away but there is still a big tournament to be played in the US before the player`s minds can turn to Gleneagles. The 2014 Tour Championship provides the players with so much to play for, with the title of FedEx champion in addition to a huge prize fund of $10 million still up for grabs. There are up to 29 players who are in with a chance of claiming the title and prize money but only 5 of them have it in their own hands. If one of these players wins the tournament, they win the title and the names to look out for are Rory McIlroy, Billy Horschel, Chris Kirk, Bubba Watson and Hunter Mahan. For the remaining players, things that are out of their control will have to go their way if they are to claim the overall prize but this still keeps things interesting for the majority of the field.

In terms of the tournament itself, betfred have Rory McIlroy as favourite with odds of 7/2 and despite four-putting twice in his previous tournament, the Northern Irishman still managed to finish in the top 10, showing great character in doing so. In terms of the FedEx Cup, McIlroy could finish third or even fourth in the tournament and still claim the trophy if all his rivals struggle. Bookmakers are making him favourite, not only to win the tournament but also the FedEx Cup and he is available at 2/1 with Coral to win the latter. While a small field in this tournament can make good value difficult to find, Jim Furyk is attractively priced at 12/1 to come out on top. The American has been in good form and is also still in contention for the FedEx Cup, providing extra motivation do well this weekend. If Furyk can win the tournament and both Billy Horschel and Chris Kirk finish outside the top three he will take the FedEx cup and is available at 16/1 with Stan James to do just that.

Another American coming in to the weekend in good form is Rickie Fowler, having finished in the top 5 placings of all the major tournaments this year. Like Furyk, Fowler will need things to go his way but if he can win the tournament, priced 14/1 with Coral and the players above him struggle, then the 18/1 being offered by Stan James to win the FedEx starts to look tempting.

While the likelihood of claiming the FedEx Cup is slim, a good outside bet the Tour Championship is Japanese player Hideki Matsuyama. Coming in to the event in decent form, Matsuyama is on offer at 45/1 with 888sport and certainly has the game to challenge at the top of the field this weekend. Interestingly, Chris Kirk can actually finish in last position this weekend and yet still win the FedEx Cup, the American is available at 50/1 with boylesports to win the tournament but only 10/1 to win the FedEx cup with Coral.
