After the distractions of the FA Cup Fourth Round the Premier League returns with a full fixture list this midweek. Here is our guide to the four games on Tuesday night.
The live game is between Sunderland and Swansea at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats have picked up in recent weeks with two big wins moving them up the table to 11th. Swansea will also enter the game on a high after booking a visit to Wembey in the League Cup final. The Swans are also going well in the league with two wins and four draws from their last six games. Bookmakers make Sunderland the 53/35 favourites for the game while Swansea are a 23/10 (Stan James) chance and the draw is a best priced 12/5 (general). The best bet in this game is in taking a punt on Jonathan de Guzman to get among the goals. The Swansea midfielder scored two in the last league game against Stoke in a formation that gave him have licence to play further forward and at 18/1 (BWin) he has to be worth chancing in the first goalscorer market and at 13/2 (BWin) in the anytime scorer market.
Aston Villa take on Newcastle in a game that could have big implications at the bottom of the table. Bookmakers are struggling to split the pair with Villa available at a best priced 19/11 (pinnacle) while Newcastle are 9/5 (bet365/paddy Power/Stan James) and the draw is a best priced 5/2 (Stan James). In a game between two sides badly out of form I would not feel comfortable predicting the result so it may be best to look at one of the other markets available. It is difficult to know just how the Magpies are going to line up after a number of recent signings but I still suspect Yohan Cabaye will be hugely influential. The Frenchman might play the most advanced of the Newcastle midfield and with a great eye for set-pieces he looks value at 14/1 (general) to net first and at 5/1 (BWin) in the anytime scorer market.
A few weeks ago a trip to Loftus Road would have looked easy for Man City however things have picked up for QPR in the league with them going three games unbeaten. City are also in good form with a run of six wins from their last six in all competitions. Bookmakers have them at 1/2 (general) to win this game while the draw is 7/2 (general) and a QPR win is 127/19 (pinnacle). The last three QPR games have featured under 2.5 goals while has also been the case in seven of the last nine City away games. Therefore it is a surprise to see bookmakers favouring the over 2.5 goals in this market so take the game to have under 2.5 goals which is available at 19/16 with 188Bet.
One last game takes places Tuesday evening in the Premier League and is between Stoke and Wigan. The Potters at 11/10 (william hill) looks the selection here against a struggling Wigan side who have taken just five points from their last ten home games. Stoke have lost just one of their last 18 at home in the Premier League and although they do draw a few I think they look worth the risk at 11/10 to add to the misery for Wigan. Five of the last seven meetings between these sides have ended drawn and another draw here is 88/35 (Pinnacle) while a Wigan victory is available at 53/17 (Pinnacle).
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Stoke to beat Wigan at 11/10, william hill
SILVER: Yohan Cabaye to score v Aston Villa, first 14/1 (general), anytime 5/1 (BWin)
BRONZE: Jonathan de Guzman to score v Sunderland, first 18/1, anytime 13/2 (BWin)
