R Kelly once sang he believed he could fly and it would be a miracle of similar proportions were Tahiti to lift the Confederations Cup. You can get odds of 1000/1 (william hill) on them to win Group B or 5000/1 (GENERAL) on them to win the whole tournament. You would be better advised buying some magic beans.

Eagles can fly and the Super Eagles of Nigeria look good each-way shouts at 33/1 (betfred). This tournament has had shock finalists in the past (USA, Cameroon, Japan, Mexico, Australia, Denmark and Saudi Arabia) and the African Cup of Nation winners are in great form going 17 games unbeaten. Premier League fans will recongize Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel while a number of the players are playing in Europe. The Nigerians look more than capable of qualifying from their group at 5/4 (BETVICTOR) ahead of Uruguay who have won just two of their last 10 internationals.

The group also contains the sublime (Spain) and the ridiculous (Tahiti) who are as stated before expected to be seriously out of their depth. Champions Spain are expected to win this group comfortably at 4/9 (GENERAL) . A word of caution though the 2012 Olympics and the 2009 Confederations Cup showed that if the motivation is missing then so can Spain be. No doubt this Spanish team has the talent to make a mockery of their odds to win the tournament (7/4-GENERAL) though I shall not be getting involved at that price.

Group A features the favourites Brazil who are as short as 4/6 (CORAL) to win their group. A lot of expectation will rest on them both on and off the pitch as they host the tournament. As hosts Brazil will certainly be up for the tournamernt and have a number of talented individuals though 4/6 (CORAL) on them to win Group A looks a little short as does odds of 13/8 (CORAL) on them to win the competition. Brazil had a good win against France last time out (3-0) but before that game had won just one of their previous eight. I think a little value can be had in backing Italy to come top of the group at 3/1 (paddy Power/ladbrokes/betway). The Italians are doing well in World Cup qualifying and showed in the European Championships they have the game for the big tournament. This side have Buffon in goal, the bulk of a Juventus defence that conceded just 24 league goals this year, Pirlo and Marchiso in Midfield and a forward line of Mario Balotelli and Stephan El Shaarawy.

The other two sides to be in the group are Mexico who are 13/2 (bet365) to win the group while Japan are the outsiders at 16/1 (GENERAL). Both sides could be dangerous opponents on the day so look for them in the individual game markets.

You can also bet on player of the tournament and top tournament goalscorer. El Shaarawy could be a good bet in the top goalscorer EW at 33/1 (ladbrokes). The AC Milan player scored 16 goals last season and after the sending off of Balotelli in a World Cup qualifier is more likely to be trusted to lead the line for the Italians and will benefit from the creative talents of Pirlo in midfield.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Nigeria to qualify from Group B, 5/4 (BETVICTOR)
SILVER: Italy to win Group A, 3/1 (paddy Power/ladbrokes/betway)
BRONZE: Nigeria EW to win the Confederations Cup, 33/1 (betfred)
