The US Senior Open is the fourth of the five majors in men’s senior golf. The event is open to players aged 50 years and over from the Champions Tour and European Seniors Tour. This year the event will be held at the Omaha Country Club in Nebraska which is hosting it for the first time.
Duffy Waldorf is the headline selection at 18/1 (CORAL) as no player is in better form on the Tour than Walforf. He has got five top 6 finishes from his last seven events and even managed a top fifty appearance on the PGA Tour in the HP Byron Nelson. Last time out Waldorf finished second behind Kenny Perry in the Senior Players Championship. At these prices he looks great value.
Fred Couples is the natural favourite for the tournament as he has been the star of the Champions Tour this year. Couples has played seven events this year coming third four times and fourth twice. The American is also a two times Senior major winner having secured this trophy in 2011 and the Senior British Open in 2012. He must be due a Tour win soon though at odds of 6/1 (SKYBET) I think he looks a little short to be siding with.
Bernhard Langer is the second favourite for the event and can be backed at 10/1 (CORAL). The German won this title in 2010 and was among four players tied for second last year. He has also recorded two wins on the Tour this season and was a solid eighth in the Senior Players Championship last time out.
Kenny Perry is a 12/1 (SKYBET/CORAL) chance and he must be respected. Perry was a winner in the Senior Players Championships at the end of June that moved him to the top of the standings on the Tour this season.
Tom Lehman is a 14/1 (bet365/STAN JAMES) chance for success this weekend and he is one for the big occasions winning three majors previously. Lehman has not picked up a title this year though has gone close with a second, a third and five top ten finishes. Michael Allen is a 22/1 (CORAL) chance who tied for fourth at the Senior Players Championship and has had a great year on the Tour with one victory and six top ten finishes. He should give each-way backers a good run for their money.
David Frost is next in the betting at 25/1 (CORAL). Frost is second to Perry in the Tour standings and the South African has two wins, a second and a third this season. He has already won a major this year by winning The Tradition. Frost ticks all the boxes and must be added to your portfolio.
Colin Montgomerie is a 30/1 (888 SPORT/unibet) chance and he will be disappointed to be here rather than preparing himself for the British Open in his native Scotland. Monty was tied ninth at the Seniors Player Championship and at the top of his game could be right in the mix. Mark Calcavecchia is also a 30/1 (888 SPORT/unibet) chance and he comes on the back of some ultra consistent form. He has seven top 15 finishes from his last eight events and four of those were top five finishes. Take the American then at 5/2 (SYBET/STAN JAMES) for a top ten finish.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Duffy Waldorff, EW, 18/1 (CORAL)
SILVER: David Frost, EW, 25/1 (CORAL)
BRONZE: Mark Calcavecchia to finish in the top ten, 5/2 (SKYBET/STAN JAMES)
