Champions League Preview and Odds - Paris Saint-Germain vs Arsenal

September 13, 2016 20:45pm - Parc des Princes

Champions League - Group Stage

Arsenal will get their Champions League campaign underway on Tuesday night when they make the short trip to France to face reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in Group A.

The Gunners have stabilised their league form after a shaky start in which they were beaten 2-4 at home by Liverpool and held to a 0-0 draw away at Leicester City. Since then, they have enjoyed back-to-back wins away to Watford (1-3) and at home to Southampton (2-1).

Their mini-revival has coincided with the return from injury of some key players and the arrival of some new faces late in the transfer window. They will now be looking to get their European campaign off to a good start against a team that made it to the quarter-final stage last season.

With the demons of European inconsistency hanging over his head, Arsene Wenger will be out to prove the doubters wrong in what could be his last season at the helm in North London.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain have had a stuttering start to their league campaign. But unlike Arsenal, they started well, securing back-to-back wins away to Bastia and at home to Metz, before struggling in their next two games. They come into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw at home to Saint-Etienne, which was preceded by a 1-3 defeat away to Monaco.

After watching their team`s impressive performances in the pre-season period, the Parisian fans may have expected a stronger showing from Unai Emery`s men. Tuesday night will give the French champions an opportunity to make amends by beating elite opposition on the European stage.

Paris Saint-Germain possible starting XI: Trapp Meunier, Marquinhos, Silva, Kurzawa Motta, Matuidi, Verratti Moura, Cavani, Ben Arfa

Arsenal possible starting XI: Cech Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal Cazorla, Xhaka, Coquelin Sanchez, Perez, Ozil.

Team news

The home side will be without Maxwell, Pastore, and Aurier.

Meanwhile, Per Mertesacker, Gabriel, Danny Welbeck, Carl Jenkinson, and Aaron Ramsey are all out of action for the visitors.

Betting odds and tips

Arsenal should have the momentum coming into this game, having won their last two league games and welcomed some key players back into the squad.

PSG are having a wobble and are still coming to terms with the new tactical set-up of their recently-appointed Spanish coach. However, they do have home advantage and Arsenal have an inconsistent record in Europe.
