Tottenham take on Arsenal this Sunday with North London pride and three crucial points in the race for the Champions League on the line. Here is our guide to the best of the bets from this game and the two Scottish cup ties scheduled to take place on Sunday.
Bookmakers make Tottenham the favourites at 13/10 (general) to win the North London derby as they enter the game on the back of an eleven game unbeaten run in the league. This resulted in Andre Villas Boas picking up the manager of the month award while Gareth Bale won the player of the month award. Despite a number of cup exits though Arsenal are also in good form in the league winning their last three and losing none of their last five. If you fancy Arsenal you can get them at 30/13 (pinnacle) and the draw is 47/18 (pinnacle).
The head to head record tends to favour Arsenal who have only lost two of their last ten in all competitions against their local rivals. At White Hart Lane in the Premier League the figures tend to point towards Tottenham as the Gunners have taken just two points from their last five league visits to White Hart Lane.
I think this will be a fascinating game for the neutral to watch but I think the bookmakers have it priced about right and as such would recommend a bet on one of the other markets.
The First Goalscorer market is headed by the red-hot Gareth Bale who is 11/2 (betway) to score first and 7/5 (BWin) to score anytime. The Welshman has netted a remarkable nine goals in his last seven games in all competitions including seven in his last four. Others heavily fancied in the first scorer market are Jermain Defoe at 6/1 (BetVictor/Coral/betway) and Emmanuel Adebayor 13/2 (betway). Those looking for an Arsenal player can get Olivier Giroud at 8/1 (Betway) the same price of Theo Walcott (general) while Lukas Podolski is 10/1 (Betway).
If I tell you that 12 of the last 13 league games between these sides featured over 2.5 goals you would think that the overs would be the way to play. In fact I think quite the reverse because of the history of some high scoring games bookmakers will have inflated the prices on the over goals market. First some figures Arsenal have conceded just 11 goals in their 13 league away games this season which is actually a Premier League low. Tottenham have scored just 20 goals at home in the Premier League this season which is the 13th highest in the division. The unders would have paid in three of the last four Arsenal away games in the Premier League and in five of the last eight Tottenham games in all competitions. Take the 13/10 (ladbrokes/pinnacle/32 Red) on this game to have under 2.5 goals.
One final bet to recommend in this game is in the second half to be the highest scoring. 72% of the goals Tottenham have scored in the league have come in the second half of the season while it is just 58% Arsenal this still makes odds of 15/13 (BWin) that the last 45 minutes feature the most goals look decent value.
In the Scottish Cup two of the four quarter-finals take place on Sunday with Dundee up against Dundee United and Kilmarnock up against Hibernian. United have won the last three meetings with their city rivals 3-0. Take them on the Asian Handicap at 20/19 (Pinnacle) -0.75. This bet will pay out a half win if they triumph by just one goal and will pay a full win if the margin of victory is by more than one goal.
BEST OF THE BETS
GOLD: Dundee United -0.75 on Asian Handicap v Dundee, 20/19 (Pinnacle)
SILVER: Under 2.5 goals Tottenham v Arsenal, 13/10 (ladbrokes/pinnacle/32 Red)
BRONZE: Second half highest scoring in Tottenham v Arsenal, 15/13 (BWin)
