Late Sunday night, early Monday morning Super Bowl XLVII (47) takes place from the Mercedez-Benz Superdrome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Here is our guide to the action and some of the best bets on offer from the over 300 available markets.

OUTRIGHT MARKET

The game pitches Baltimore against San Francisco and has been dubbed the Harbaugh Bowl as both sides will be coached by brothers. John will coach the Ravens while Jim will lead the 49ers.

Bookmakers make the 49ers the 3/5 (BWin) favourites for the game while the Ravens are a best priced 12/7 (pinnacle). It is hard to argue with these prices as the 49ers look to have more weapons. Quarterback Colin Kapernick is a nightmare to defend as he can throw and run with equal efficency. The 49ers have a great receiving corp lead by Michael Crabtree and completed by Randy Moss and Mario Manningham. Throw in tight end Vernon Davis and elite running back Frank Gore and you have a wealth of point scoring options. The Niners also had the second best regular season defence and had six of eleven Pro Bowl starters in these positions.

This is not to say the Ravens are mugs themselves or they would not be in the game. Joe Flacco has one of the best playoff records of any quarterback and they have Pro Bowlers in Ray Rice,Vonta Leach and Haltoi Ngata. Terrell Suggs is a multi time Pro-Bowl selection while the retiring Ray Lewis is a lock for the Hall of Fame in the future. This should be a close game between two very good sides. San Francisco have won on each of their five previous appearances when competing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The Ravens also have a winning record winning in 2000 on their only previous SuperBowl appearance.

FIRST TOUCHDOWN SCORER

Although the prices are a point or two smaller than with most bookmakers I really like the concession that Blue Square are offering in which they will refund losing first touchdown scorer bets if Frank Gore or Ray Rice (who are the top two in the market) grab the opening touchdown. This market is especially interesting to those who have to work the next morning and can not afford to stay up all night and want a bet that settles quickly.

The best player to get involved with is Michael Crabtree at 8/1 (Blue Sq). The 49ers wide receiver has grabbed six touchdowns in his last five games and has build a great understanding with quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

SUPERBOWL MVP

In betting in this market you need to look for some wonderful stories and the two recommended picks here are real heartwarmers. Firstly you have the rags to riches story of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who was not a starter when the season began. He is a dynamic, exciting player who should thrive under pressure and if the 49ers win this he has had a huge hand in it. At 6/4 (BWin/You Win) he looks an excellent bet and makes more sense than in backing the 49ers in the game market.

At the other end of the scale is Ray Lewis a 17 year veteran who will round off his career in this game. If the Ravens are to win you would expect Lewis would have to play a key role on defence and at 11/1 (Stan James) it would be a wonderful story if he was named MVP.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Colin Kaepernick to be named MVP, 6/4 (BWin/You Win)
SILVER: Michael Crabtree first TD scorer, 8/1 (Blue Square)
BRONZE: Ray Lewis to be named MVP, 11/1 (Stan James)
