With the Premier League absent due to the international break it looks a good time to see how the outright markets are shaping up and see if we can any antepost bets.

Robin van Persie is the 5/1 (888 SPORT/unibet) favourite to finish as top scorer despite a slow start to the season with just three goals to his name. Man United fans will hope his hat-trick for the Dutch national team on Friday night is a mark of a return to form. It is Daniel Sturridge who is the top scorer this season with six goals and he is a 8/1 (GENERAL) chance to finish as topscorer. Luis Suarez who has netted three goals in his two games back in the Premier League and is a shorter price than Sturridge at 11/2 (SPREADEX). The value bet though has to be Newcastle frontman Loic Remy who is in great scoring form at the moment having netted five times already this season with all of these goals coming in his last three games. The player on-loan from QPR is likely to be guaranteed starts at Newcastle therefore it is a shock to see him available at 33/1 (SKYBET) when he is as short as 16/1 with CORAL.

The Premier League title race looks more open than it has for a number of years with six sides looking capable of finishing the season on top. Bookmakers Man City the 9/4 (GENERAL) favourites ahead of Chelsea at 3/1 (paddy Power/YOU WIN) and Arsenal 11/2 (GENERAL). The defending champions Man Utd are 13/2 (BETVICTOR/888 SPORT/unibet) while Liverpool are 8/1. The best bet for me is Tottenham who are 16/1 with SKYBET/888 SPORT and unibet though only the first bookmaker are playing out each-way so it is with those I would recommend betting. All six of the big sides have question marks about them at the moment so I see no reason that Tottenham should be double the price of all the others. A 3-0 loss to West Ham was a disappointment but it was just one of those games where everything the Hammers hit went in. If Defoe had put away his chance early in the second half it is likely the North London side would have won. In an open race go with the biggest value team of the six.

At the other end of the table things look bleak for Crystal Palace and they are as short as 1/6 (CORAL/SPREADEX) for the drop and 10/11 (CORAL/william hill) to finish bottom of the table at the end of the season. Sunderland are another side who are in for a long season though they do have the slim hope that new manager Gus Poyet could turn things around for them. The Black Cats are currently bottom of the table with just one point and are 10/11 (boylesports/CORAL/william hill) for the drop. The value bet for me though is West Ham who are as big as 9/1 (GENERAL) for relegation. The Hammers seem to have been inflated in the betting as a result of that 3-0 victory over Tottenham. I would not read to much into that one result though especially as the London side were on a run that saw them pick up just one point from their four previous league games. The Hammers might sit in 13th but they are just one point ahead of Norwich in 18th and the real worry for them is where their goals will come from this season.

BEST OF THE BETS

GOLD: Loic Remy EW to finish as topscorer in Premier League, 33/1 (SKYBET)
SILVER: West Ham to be relegated from Premier League, 9/1 (GENERAL)
BRONZE: Tottenham, EW to win Premier League, 16/1 (SKYBET)
